As you well may know many posts where not taken up, Chief Scientist, Chief Justice and Public Defender.

What should we do with these empty offices, techs arn't much of a problem to deal with, but if something comes along in court, what do we do then?

The radical (and not the one I want to take) solution would be to get rid of some offices, another would be to wait and see if anyone takes up these positions, possibly putting up more advertising for the game.

Also theres the problem that next term we may have even less people running for office so I think we need to do something this term otherwise the game might be down the sink!

The shortage of officials worries me greatly I think this shows that people are losing interest in the DG, and that can only mean bad things for the future. While modifying the number of offices may solve the problem in the short term I'm not sure how long that will save us if the underlying problem isn't addressed.

How to draw people into the game again is a tough question though. I think that players coming into the game late will feel overwhelmed by the DG and all that has happened so far. It's a tricky thing to try and figure out.

One of the things I was thinking about for the next DG was an idea to bring more competition between players. While the system we have, everyone getting along inside one government has worked well so far I think a more confrontational set up would draw more attention and attract interest. My idea would be to split the DG into two or three factions who, while working together as a team, were also trying to surpass each other in power and prestige, either for a final victory which would be given to one of the factions, or in order to gain an important office mandated to the most powerful faction.

That plan however isn't fully worked out and would do little to draw new members to the game. It would likely increase the number of offices, and would also increase the complexity of the game, possibly scaring off more people.

Probably the best suggestion is simply to tell your friends about the DG and to encourage lurkers to come out of the shadows and participate more in the game.

Fortunately I do have some good news, I've been contacted by an interested player who wishes to become our science officer, I intend to appoint mik6426to the position. 1 down 2 to go :)

You have to realise that for many people school is over too. They either graduated or are waiting for their retakes.

I can carry a position if needed.

Just know nothing of computers and little of English.

Best regards,

How does the Science Office appeal to you then ?!

I can be a Public Defender. I was one in a past life. Although I haven't been following the DG closely, I don't think that prevents one from ruling justly from the bench. But now I'll really pay attention to get that easy win that I missed the first 3 months. :)

This is very common during the middle of a demogame, and during summer months, too. (You'd think they'd have more time, actually). Students are studying for finals (colleges in May, highschools in June), and people go on vacation during the summer, too.

I can be Acting Chief Justice, if need be. In fact, I think we ought to write some kind of line of succession into the rules for these situations...

If nobody objects, I'll open the new Court thread soon on the (as yet nonexistent) Chief Justice's behalf.

There is one currently, myself.

All rite, sign me up. But I guess there is hardly any legal squabbles in a quiet universe like this.

Wonderful! I had basically given up on finding a chief justice this term, it may be a quiet term, but maybe with a functional court that will change.

Not quiet game-wise -- we're in a warmongering phase.

In other news, my harddrive just corrupted a bunch of files (I blame Norton AV on this one), including Civ4.

It even razed the HolyCity! (it said "Deleting HolyCity.dds". I got a little chuckle out of that).

How about letting any civfanatic vote in elections, you would still have to be a citizen to vote in polls, but it might encourage more people to get into the demogame

Nope, there have been problems with people registering for CFC multiple times to vote several times in one election. This of course can not be tolerated. Therefor we now have the citizens group. As far as I know, anyone requesting access to the usergroup is checked (mainly checking the IP address as far as I'm aware).
