I honestly feel like I am cheating with the Shoshone. Even with three ruins-that means two population and a tech. It seems like you can only choose out of 6 options, not all. And it seems like not two in a row either. The first game I got lucky. I moved next ti a mountain away from marble & copper but got them anyways from the UA then I got two population two techs and a comp bowmen from my pathfinder. I haven't even figured out if the other UU is any good. Also, can anyone reccommend which policy to start with?
 
On which difficulty level are you playing?
I saw a MadDjinn Video on Deity and he definitely could not take the same picks on three ruins...
maybe its different on lower difficulty?
 
Yeah i got three techs about 4 population a pantheon and a few unit upgrades by spamming 3 pathfinders to start the game on immortal- not to mention some good culture. Decent start :crazyeye:

I'm playing on immortal, but I'm fairly sure the ruins reset every three in MD's playthrough too.
 
I played a little with them last night ( like 30 min), and I think they are very overpowered. It was large fractal map/ emperor , and I built 3 scouts 1st, and I snatched 3 pops, 2 tech, 2 social policy, 2 fate ruins, 2 weapon upgrades so far, and I think there are still some ruins around. By the way, the weapon upgrade for their scouts are composite bows.
 
I wasn't actually counting, but I think it was every three. I still feel like I'm cheating. I mean culture/faith/CB/tech/pio. Never a map or find barb camps again! Although, I'm curious what you all think I should take from the ruins.

If you had played a regular civ, built the same amount of scouts and gotten the same amount of ruins, how much worse off would you be? I'd say not that much. 14 ruins will give lots of good stuff, even with a few map reveals thrown in there.

If you had played a regular civ, built the same amount of scouts and gotten the same amount of ruins, how much worse off would you be? I'd say not that much. 14 ruins will give lots of good stuff, even with a few map reveals thrown in there.

the difference came when you finally finished exploring and found yourself stuck with 3 useless scouts. Which never gonna happened with the shosone.
 
I want to try Shoshone so badly. their Pathfinders looks great.
 
AIUI, there are existing rules in place to restrict what random ruin results you can get based on various factors (turn count, what results you had recently, etc). The choices you are offered are those that the random generator would be selecting from.
 
Speaking of the Shoshone, I couldn't find it yet...do we know yet what the Comanche Rider's extra promotion does? COuldn't find it following a quick search.
 
Even still, if you don't take the upgrade for the pathfinder as one of your bonuses, after you finish exploring initially, and the barbs are stepping up to axmen and spearman, you find yourself getting weaker and weaker......with less gold its hard to keep them and get better units, so a choice must be made!

I started out with just 2 and upgraded one (popped about 10 ruins, got faith, culture, 2 techs, pop, and the one upgrade!), but the BARBARIANS made it impossible to build buildings, so I had to pump out more pathfinders (they are quick and strong as warriors) just to keep from being overrun, so I ended up with 5 of them. I've since taken out 2 of the encampments, but they are still a problem...now coming as spearman and axmen, and my pathfinders are becoming less and less effective at killing the barbs. I don't want to get rid of them because a few of them are promoted twice to extra sight, and I have Assyria to my south and Morocco to my east. They would be very useful in keeping an eye on my borders.......but with the reduced amount of gold, I'm going to have to drop some to get more swordsman. So while they are good, I wouldn't recommend building more than 2 of them!
