I am sure things will get better when they start releasing proper patches--but dang, I have to vent.
First game I started I invested a good 20+ hours into (marathon run on a huge map). It was a riot until it started crashing due to the same issues Civ IV had on such huge maps with a lot going on. Modern era seems to be a curse in this respect. The game would crash, I would reload, the game would crash in a few turns, I would reload, and it continued like that. So I set my autosaving to 2 turns and for it to hold 10 autosave slots just in case. Since the issues continued I then started a new game on a standard map and quick speed just so I could get to the modern era quickly.
Did this save me from crashes? Apparently not. I moved a chariot archer to a tile and the game crashed to desktop (different from the other crashes which were just complete lockups of the game). I figured, "No problem, I have my trusty autosave handy."
Not true. Apparently it defaulted back to the stupid 10 turn crap and now I lost a good 10 turns of gameplay.
If the game is going to keep up like this I'm not going to play it until the next release. Luckily I have Windows 7 sitting right here, probably going to upgrade now and see if that makes a difference.
Anyone else dealing with these kind of issues? I want to love this game, I'm trying to love this game and realize it's just vanilla, but it's making it really hard.
