Should I build King RichCrusade?

I never said I was willing to obey a pachyderm:)

Running at 20% lux: this is a waste. You should either run at 0% or at a higher rate enabling several cities to celebrate and grow.

I looked at the game, and I found that to get reasonable celebration I would need some 70% lux. No mater what I do, I can not get Nottingham to celebrate, as the first citisen is unhapy, and lux only work to a certain point. I will swich to demo once I reserch it and have finished Bach's. I should be able to reaserch it next time, or the one after it, as I have already seen it on the list. The lux I have now will keep me from disorder, and I will just have to wate for demo to get "Happyness Courthouses" that will push Not. over the edge.

This means that you need more caravans delivered or/and more improvements.
Meanwhile, you should switch back to zero lux. Staying at 20% is a waste.

BTW be careful if you wish to switch to Democracy, since your merchant ships are triremes (triremes and caravels have a non-zero attack value and provide unhappy citizens = that is why most experienced players wait until they get Magnetism (or Indust.) before they switch to Democracy).

Not very likely you will be getting a tech per turn before SuperHighways or ResearchLabs, unless you have a good sized empire with piles of long-distance caravan deliveries. Best I've been able to do in the Eng-Ind range is 2-4 turns per tech, and that is with an early Copes (which puts off the building of KRC). So you are looking at 50-100 turns (assuming your tech plan is correct - it seems a little stretched).

The challenge to me when I get Eng early enough is to decide on the order of building Wonders. It is often around the time I get Med or Ast, so Shakes and Copes are the competitors, and sometimes I have neglected Colossus as well.

1) A reasonable distance via ship chain from SSC to target -- 2, 3 camels gets a tech (no camels might mean 5 turns per tech or so -- to gauge the size & infrastructure support) until Inv/Nav. More with smaller cities, etc.

2) Wonder priority -- KRC to me ranks below Marcos, Copes, & Shakes and about even with Sun Tsu. I find Shakes less urgent with the ai (even though it is more valuable to me), so I might put in KRC first if I think I can grab the entire set. If I can't build KRC in the SSC, then I'll skip it altogether. Similar pressure later with Mikes, Leos, Magellan & Isaac. I find I'm often postponing the "better" wonder simply due to ai priorities.

Another tangential benefit of KRC (but not necessarily building it ;) ): if I find myself in what seems to be tight a race (particularly in OCC) for the holy trinity of mid-game SSC wonders (Cope, Shakespeare, and Newton) and I get my hands on engineering, I will try to distribute it to wonder-building AIs and usually one or more will switch production to KRC.

Literacy is the best for that; plus it may "pacify" them a bit too...
True, but that usually happens earlier in the Colossus/MPE time frame ;)

I seem to often dely researching TG because I'm behind with building wonders. I think that the ai places a lower priority on it, so I wait (and delay those benefits.)

Same here. If OCCing without early KRC I often lower Sci to increase Tax for RBing caravans. AI never goes for ToG till very late.

I've gotten much farther now, I'm reserching auto. I was quite anoyed when I found out that caravles don't upgrade directly into transports, so I reserched Mag asap. To La Fayette, who said that I might have dificulty growing Burmingham, it is at size 11 with some 16 food surpluss. Supermarket and grainery helped a lot, of course, and I focused on food prod in that city first, to help it grow. Not that it neglected shelds entirely, It has some decent prod, and is quite developed, having a crew of engineers working aroud it. As for lux, I reduced to 10% (to keep order) until I had demo working, then I changed to 30%, and that did quite some celebrating. I also has Engineers working around Nottingham to cut the forests and to transform mountains to grassland, (one is down to hills already, but I din't put many engineers to work on them, it's a govt. progect, so it can take as long as the govt. sees fit... ;) ) but with Supermarket it is quite big, and with 50% sci it produces almost 500 bekers. if you want to look at the game you may...

I try to build KRC in my ssc every time I can. There are a bunch of things you want there(library-etc,aqueduct-etc,science wonders, and shakes) KRC gets these built sooner.

In d you must be very selective about the wonders you build. An scc is already going to be working on 3, but probably more because it will be pretty large and not doing anything else. In order to build KingRich, you need to have engineering, which I don't usualy get before the comp has halfway build KingRich anyway. It was just one of those lucky times when the comp doesn't put to much into reserch, and you start of with many good techs that speed along your reserch... By the way, my scc was at 1000+ sci at its peek point (with 50% sci).
