I have been wanting to buy this game for a very long time but am afraid that my computer will not run it....I have an AMD 1400 cpu, GForce 3, 768 MB Ram....I am between the min and rec specs....I am in the process of building a computer but it may be a few months before I am finished......Shoud I buy now??? Will my computer actually run the game???

It sounds good to me, but please please PLEASE get someone else's opinion as well because I am, by no means, a computer expert. I wouldn't want you to waste 50 bucks on a game that doesn't work... trust me, that's extremely frustrating.

I would say your spec is borderline at best. The min specs on the box are complete nonsense imho. I think in the long-run a graphic card upgrade would be the best advice I can suggest, at least upto a series 6 card. The CPU is just alittle on the slow side too. The RAM should be enough. I think the game would run if all the drivers are up to date but it might be slow and very choppy. I would wait a few months until you have finished your new machine as most of the remaining issue with the game will hopefully be finally put to bed.

People with lower specs seem to have a better chance to get the game to run from what I have gathered by reading posts on this forum.

I was able to get the game to run on an AMD Duron 1,2 GHz, 256!!!! MB RAM, Radeon 9550 Pro 256 MB.
But it seems that it doesn´t really matter if you reach min specs or even recommended specs!
cIV seems to choose for itself if it wants to run on your system or not (and if it runs, that doesn´t even mean that it will run smoothly).

Best you could do is find somebody who has this game ask him if you can try it out for one or two days (he will surely understand that question, because he will know what problems the community has with this "masterpiece", which it surely is - gameplaywise)!

If it runs and you buy it - have fun! it´s even better than Civ III (Conquests) IMHO

Edit: perhaps you could try it with a demo version if you don´t know anybody who´s got it.

Your machine should be able to run the game, but wait until the next patch. The current edition is horribly bug-ridden, and will probably cause you more trouble than it is worth.

thanks for all the advice...I have had great luck with this computer and it seems to run games fairly well (for instance Rome: Wotal War has run fairly well which I did not expect)...I may get it now anyways and try to run it and when I finish my new computer I will already have it. I only started CIV III around Thanksgiving and played CivIV at a family member's house and it seemed confusing at first but it seems more streamlined and simplified in many ways....I would like to get it and try to get it to run

Well, I took the plunge and picked it up. I haven't spent much play time yet but so far it is running ok....I'm sure it will get slow as I get deeper into a game, but I think I can live with that until my new computer is built(Hopefully before the end of summer).
