Erm, congrats on 2500 posts, Strider! ;)

As for competition, I don't think too many people see it that way, maybe I'm wrong and they just don't want to admit it. I know Curt Sibling thinks Thunderfall is a big loser though, and is planning to do something awful to the site. Probably best to ban him for awhile to curtail the posting...

EDIT: It was a joke, get it? Postcount competition? Relax.

:lol::lol:

Anyway... Thank you... I would like to thank (*long list of names*)

Anyway.... I do think there are users who post just for the fact to increase there post count to get to the top. Which is fine by me.... As long as it's useful and isn't spam ;) (On-Topic to)

To the "Supreme Cout of Moderators": the issue isn't a very big factor, and in this small sample, it is very closely divided. Keep things the way they are! Postcounts shall remain! ;)

I like the postcount because I like all kinds of statistics about the things I care about.
And considering the amount of time that I waste here I like to take a look at people's post count now or then.

That does however not encourage spamming in my case, as I care about everyone's postcount as much as about my own and I'd hate to mess up the statistic.

I say keep it and I'd rather have more statistical information at my hands. ;)

Plus there are ways around it if post count is hidden again as you can use your location to enter your post count into although you have to update it yourself.
But no one would be able to tell whether you're lying or not.

Of course... I don't think this will decrease any of the "competition" for highest post count. It'll just make it harder to do. (You can still go into the members section and see everyone's post count.)
Really? I assumed that if postcount were hidden, it would be impossible to see people's post count in the members section.

If I remember correctly awhile ago you could not see the postcount to the right of a person's post. The only way to see your postcount was to go into the member's section and look at it. I believe then we had a vote alot like this one that passed in favor of showing the post count to the right.

I wonder if that's true or not. It would stand to reason that it is, but does anyone have the statistics to back up such a claim? I suspect that as time goes on, the number of posters who are playing the game will get lower and lower.

That might be interesting to find out. I personally don't play more than the occasional Civ2 scenario, and never Civ1 or 3. Perhaps somebody should start a seperate thread on this?

Curt and others are right, though, that there hasn't been much competition (at least not blatant). I would still vote drop it, but it's so close I doubt seriously that anything will happen as a result of this thread.

I say keep it in the profile, but don't display it openly.

I, for one, am quite knowledgeable in civ3, have a high post count, and help 'newbies' with their questions.

I would also say those with a 500+ post countg in GD are usually much more knowledgable than those with, say, 32. One exception to that would be 'Uncle Dynamite' whose been here for a couple of months with a rather low post count of around 40, and only posts friendly, helpful things. He is, however, an exception to the observation.

double eidt: WHOOPS didn't know my picture had my name on it;)

Shhhh!

Don't ruin my evil plot!

The atomic exploding birthday cake is almost complete!

:D

I say keep the counts!

They remind me just how sad I am...It's important!

It's important to remind you of how sad you are?

OK, I'll remember that for future. ;)

I say we should ditch them or I'm gonna go on a spa.. erm, posting spree!

Note that the only thing we are talking about hiding is this:

<------------

not the members page or the profiles.

[dance] Wa-hoo! 2091 posts! I'm soooo important!! Only another 909 posts and that's 3000!

Why should the post count be hidden?
I think it's nice to know how many posts I have by just looking the left frame. And also so you can know when Curt, Lt. , Chieftess etc. are breaking 10000 posts.

Why does it matter when they break 10,000, Ville? They are all good contributers to the site because of what they have contributed, not necessarily how much they have posted (or even how much they have contributed).

So we're talking about hiding that nasty little blank area below the user's style? Never! :p

Well, in Ancient CFC style it is in the right place. ;)

It's not my fault you don't know which style to use is it? :p

Not that it would matter but it's a great milestone and then we would also get posters over 10000 posts like Apolyton, (oh did I say that A-word again:mischief:  )
