Should there be a death penalty?

In my opinion, 'Thou shalt not murder' since it does happen to be the correct interpretation of the commandment.

Personally i'd say the Death Penalty rather opposes the ol' 'turn the other cheek' ethos. But what do I know, i'm just a filthy atheist.

Again, there is a difference in rules for governments and rules for personal conduct. Jesus was a hebrew....and it is very clear that he stated that he didnt come to change the law, but to fullfill it (his own words btw). Ergo, since the Hebrews did have a 'death penalty' I am not sure one can make the arguement that Jesus came to make such a governmental reform. He most certainly didnt desire to replace the roman supervision of Israel at that time, nor did he argue against the practices of the Romans (who btw, also used the death penalty to large extent). In fact, his reluctance to speak out against the romans was what infuriated the hebrew leaders at the time, who were looking to rebel against the romans.

In fact, Jesus entire reason for being born could not have been fulfilled if not for the death penalty. Do you not think if he objected to it, that he could have stopped it from happening?

I think there would be better things to have them do than chain gang type work. like really dirty industrial jobs or garment manufacture or electronics assembly.

Chain gangs did both. Prison should never be construed as a place to acquire job skills...or as a desirable alternative to go to.....it should be a place of punishment.

thats the beauty of it mobboss, the skills they learn in prison have no outworld applicability. if you go to prison you get to live like a sweatshop pakistani or bolivian.

and I disagree with prison not being a place to learn job skills. i think it highly depends on what the prisoner did and if job skills would prevent future crime.

We kinda hold people to double-standards whenever we can.
We want people to follow the parts of their beliefs that we like, and not partake of the beliefs that we don't like (or, at least, don't follow those parts as closely).

Not that I'm defending the behaviour, but you'll see it everywhere.
