I thought of some UI improvements for the diplomacy screen when you´re in contact with another faction.

Currently you see the other leader and to the right the negotiations panel. But I think it´s not only helpful but also makes sense in-univers to have an additional panel that displays a diplomatic dossier of the faction you´re negotiating with.

In this dossier I would expect to see things the advisors in previous Civ games told you:
  • Giving you an impression if their military is stronger than yours
  • Show if this faction is currently at war with another faction
  • Show (some) of their incomes
  • Show most recent and active deals with this faction
  • Show trading routes with this faction (with yields and turns to go)

This dossier could be more precise or less precise if you spy on them and e.g. have established a network in one of their cities.

Also I think it would be good to have a mouse-over text showing you the affinity levels of the faction when hovering over the leader.

I completely agree. At the moment whe I enter negotiation I have no idea what I want to do because I can't get any info, I have to get out of negotiations and then back in after looking for info in all kinds of places (and unfortunately who is at war with who is also not something you can just easily look up).

This was something possible to do in Civ 4, as you could pull up any of the Info Panels, such as diplomatic relations or demographics, and get a overall better understanding.

It's especially irritating when they ask you to go to war with someone. Sometimes I might want to, but I would like to know what other leaders think of that person as well so that I don't betray another trusted ally. Then if you say "No, not now" but then during your turn you investigate further, and you would like to go to war. You call back up that leader and say, "So, how about that war you just asked me about". And they are like "War? The answer is still no." Arrgg..

So here's another up-vote for another one of your ideas I mutually share about the game!

Right, especially when you´re not the one initiating the talks it´s bothersome to get information.

Expanding this idea for this case: You shoud be able to see not only the dossier of the faction you´re negotiating with but also that of other factions. Otherwise you cannot look up the faction you´re negotiating on declaring war against.
