You know, I am really tired of all the old guys who think they're better than everyone else saying how 'NESing is a joke' and other crap like that. Either shut up or move on! NESing is great as it is, it's minds competing in a virtual world to oust one another through strategy, creativity, and story writing. Yes, people do still write stories if you haven't noticed, and they're pretty darn good thank you very much. NESing is about attempting to always be one step ahead of your oponent and using that to your advantage. Maybe NESing isn't the same as it was a couple years ago, but you know what, I don't give damn. Things change, get over it! I have personally read through a couple of those old NESes, although I admit only a couple of them, and I think NESing is better now. You know, that may just be my opinion, but it is just as legitimate as those of the old timers who hang around reminiscing about the gloryfied old days and kvetching about the present. I really dont apreciate myself and every other NESer who hasn't been around as long as some others being called any number of negative things. Maybe you don't get the same kind of experience out of NESing, but you know what? Shut up or move on! If you really think it is that bad, then you should leave. I would rather have a smaller, and fresher, NESing community than one filled up with people who don't know how to role with the punches and have a good time. So, once again, SHUT UP OR MOVE ON!

dude... why did you have to post this... people will just get angry and mad and more angry and madder... and then you know what happens? flaming and what not. I understand where you are coming from mate, but this is not the way to go about it.

I feel that NES'ing has improved since the past espically in quality and fine tuning of he rules. However perhaps we do indeed need more heated diplomatic exchanges and stories. I don't believe I've had any relam major diplomatic flamewar since Gelion's Modern NES. A pity because those were fun...espically the ones in GooBNES and Cold War NES.

NESing might have seen better times, but this happens to be one of the flowerings, as I see it. Much better than a few months ago, when das had practically the only major NES around.

I agree that people write much too long orders, but that is one thing out of a million. I posted that because of a couple of people who have been making the kind of arguments I am responding to in two other threads today alone. This is, however, a culmination of rising anger over people who think they are better than others just because they have been here longer.

he didn't post it because he wanted to start flaming
he posted because it's true - there have been a few times when "old-schoolers" came here just to basically say "NES is crap now" and bogus stuff like that. i totally agree w/ israelite - if u dont like it dont rejoin, but dont come in here and bash the ppl who are playing now; it's absurd to expect that it would stay the same FOREVER - times and people change, and new ideas and techniques, and stories, are what makes NES so interesting: that any time, something new could happen, someone could think up a great new formula for a NES game.
the old days of Return to Our Roots were days when it was very simple, apparently, rules, no numbers for armies and navies just generic sizes but after a while i always thought "so in every battle in a war, the losing side will lose an ENTIRE army level? what about the other side? they lose nothing?" and that just didn't make much sense to me honestly. nowadays, i find that it takes me a while to update because my rules for instance get kinda complicated at times but, no offense to old-schoolers, it seems more realisic to me to use numbers rather than arbitrary levels for military

Well, I don't really count as an old-schooler, or maybe I do by now, but I agree, to some extent. I like NESes how they are now, but I do not like the direction they have gone in the last few months where they were made into a joke. I want it to be a serious, detailed, strategic/role playing game where we can all have fun. Anyone doesnt like it, they can get out.

Jolly good, always glad to see expression of opinion, it is what makes the modern world great. Personally I don't care who likes what, I'll mod NESes however i please. If i feel that the "st" in front of NES is in bad taste or incorrect, oh well doesnt matter. Personally I'm glad you said it, that's exactly the kind of attitude which makes NESing fun, plus i like disagreeing with people.

fantasy NES's are not a joke, they are no more a joke than modern NES (which are no joke either). They take just as much skill in innovation, and in my mind, more imagination. But that is just another genre of NESing, like fresh starts, industrial NESes, alit-hist NESes.

What i personally mean as a joke is, basically in my own opinion is that things have become too standardized, and sometimes realistic isnt needed. I dont care about size of orders, and personally i like simple stuff to fit my simple brain.

To sum up: The Guide to NESing is an example, there should be no outline for NESing, what happens happens, there should be no classification of NESes, no guidelines to setting one up. Modern NES come from the idea of ending board game style NESes hence the "st". Perhaps it is time for some of you to recall this.

What I mean when I say a joke is that half the posts are made when the players are intoxicated, everyone acts blatantly out of character, and the NES comes down to "hey dude, it would be so cool if we nuked that guy, let's do it" or something to that effect. A lot of this sort of behavior coming from many new NESers, which is most disappointing.
