There is a new two-page long Sid Meier interview over at Computer and Video Games site. While most of the info in the interview are not new, it does contain a few new things about the trade and resource models in Civilization III:

[*]Uranium will not be visible until you have discovered Fission.
[*]By allocating population points to work the tiles inside your city radius, there is a chance each turn that your citizens will discover a new source of a known resource.
[*]You can trade goods with another civilisation as long as you have a road, harbour, or airport that connects your civilization with theirs.
[/list]
These are bascially all the new info from the interview and they have been added to Civilization Info Center, a directory of all information ever released about Civ3.

There will certainly be a large aspect of 'Luck' in Civ 3. Fortunately, I keep my weighted dice on hand at all times

You know, I just thought of something. Will the AI be a complete moron when building roads and rails in the new game like it was in the ole game? Becuase if it is, will they be able to build their own trade networks using the same methods we do or will they be able to cheat their way around connecting all their cities?

If this is the case, it would make some real problems for us. We could connect on road to one city, but that enemy city might not be connected to the capital and so we wouldn't be able to trade with them. WTH?

I would imagine the AI will be more than happy to build roads up to our cities, thus saving us the time and effort.

If I understand the luxury concept correctly. All cities will need luxuries to keep people happy. Therefore, the AI will build roads to facilitate this proccess. I could be all washed up, but this along with the need for certain resources for military units makes me think the AI workers will have to be programmed to be more efficient in road building or they will be left in the dust of history.

Does that mean that there is no limit to how many resources may be concentrated into a given area? That every city square could concievably be a resource? It would be cool if there were no limit. This would also be nice when constructing custom maps as long as it is intuitive as to how you actually can increase and decrease the concentration (or even place resources of your liking!).

They really shouldn't restrict trades with other Civs by requiring roads. Historically inaccurate is an understatement here. But they do mention a Harbor and an Airport. How do we 'connect' with another City or Civ in this way? Does a ship/aircraft from our harbor/airport have to pass into the city square of a foreign city, with a similar construction, in order to get a 'connection'? I'd like to know how they plan on handling that.

Interesting... I remember that in Civ I the amount of trade cities generate through trade routes depends on several factors including the Flight advance so two cities connected with a road will generate much less trade than two cities with airports or harbours, right?
