Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri II

While there is a lot of hype around the shortcomings or highlights of the latest incarnation of Civ, I thought it was a good time to drum up a bit of support for remaking another classic in the Sid Meier portfolio.

There seems to be quite a bit of interest in remaking SMAC so I created a facebook group to see just how popular this might be? IF you would like to see Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri: II, then please join the group and if we get a lot of support we might just convince the team to look at a remake?

Even though I too would like to see SMAC II I unfortunately do not want to see it now or in the next 12-24 months. Otherwise, you're going to see it "streamlined" based off of feedback from "CivRev". We know how that turned out now don't we?

Another company owns the rights to smac, so don't count on seeing a sequel anytime soon.

Meh, it's not just about the name. EA holding the rights to the IP also means mindworms, the leaders and quotes, the tech names, the story interludes and so on.

I'm afraid it's pretty hard to get the atmosphere right without access to all that, especially considering that not all original creators are on board anymore.

I'd hope they can pull off something like that though. Or get the rights...

I just don't think anyone could do a decent job with it in this day and age. Gaming is a lot different than 11 years ago.

This is the game I have wanted them to spit out predating Civ 4. Just the thought of nerve stapling some civilians children because they betrayed my just generosity gets me excited.

I would hope they would make a decent AI and fix a lot of the balance issues. I actually think the graphics and the art are just fine as they are and the voice acting is tremendous.

The voice acting as absolutely great. The graphics were good at the time but they're really showing their age now. As for the AI, I'm not sure it was all that bad - certainly a lot better than this hunk o junk I'm not a graphics whore, but I just think a re-release with updated looks would be amazing
