Sid Meier's Civilization - BOARDGAME coming August 2002

Avalon Hill got purchased by Hasbro, it still publishes some of the games, not nearly as many, though. I think try www.avalonhill.com IIRC.

I miss the company as well; some great and not so great games.

Axis and allies is the greatest board game ever. To compare, Axis and Allies could be considered the chess version of world-war stragedy games, and Risk would be considered the checkers version. So anyone who likes Risk and has not played Axis and Allies, who wants more in-depth play and complex strategic moves should try Axis and Allies.

Well, to be fair, Diplomacy is the chess version, since it has no dice-rolling or uncontrolled luck factor.

Axis and Allies is the checkers version. Always hated those dice-rolling contests, although it had a good feel to it.

Risk is the snakes and ladders version :D.

A lot of the old Avalon Hill crew (as opposed to Hasbro) are still hanging around in the Baltimore area (near Firaxis, BHG, and Breakaway). I think some of them work for Breakaway and Big Huge Games.
