Sid>Spock

I wouldn't go that far, however although I found Sid's VO to be quite jarring the first few times I've heard it, I don't really notice it anymore.

:agree: Sid is out of his depth.

Hi

I'm sure Sid did his best but comparing results to Nimoy's work would be like telling Nimoy to design a game and then compare it to one of Sid's game hehe.

I can't stand it.... not only is his voice jarring but this wierdness of having his voice for just some of the techs....

I cant believe they couldnt fork out the extra bit of cash to get Nimoy back to say the other 20 words.

No disrespect to Sid - but horses for courses, he's a game designer.

You know, I had a friend before Civ 4 say to me "Guess who's doing the voiceover for Civ 4?"

I thought about it for a bit, then guessed (without any prior knowledge) "Leonard Nimoy?" My friend thought I had found out, and when I explained to him that I hadn't, he was shocked, asking "how did you guess?" My response was that I felt like he'd be the best possible choice: identifiable to nerd gamers, a good voice actor, and perfectly appropriate for the subject matter.

That is to say, Spock>>>>>>>>>>>Sid. Nimoy is perfect for it.

I think Nimoy is better, Sid isn't too bad, but yes - they each have their skills and this isn't one of Sid's. Leonard Nimoy was a great choice in the beginning - clear, good emphasis and well read quotes. It's cool having your technological discoveries read out by Spock!

Every time i install the game i forgot to choose English so i'm playing with a French guy saying quotes instead of Nimoy (i got the french version you guess !). So i'm hearing French everytime. But it's Sid's voice for the new BTS tech (in English of course, since they don't translate them) so it makes me jump every time I hear him saying : Art for Art sake is an empty .... He's a bit creepy.

i would have preferred james earl jones for all the voices. almost as "dorkily recognizable" as spock.

*darth vader voice* "Do not throw the arrow that will return against you."
*/darth vader voice*

I hate the voice when i discover aesthetics :S Doesnt fit in anywhere.. How much would it take to pay the old dude to read a few more words :(

Leonard Nimoy 4TW!

Maybe it's not a matter of money? Nimoy might have just said no or then again he is aging like all of us and he might have healt issues..

Either way I like Nimoys' voice better for the deeper resoundings of the sentences. He's just well practiced in that areana. Beep. Beep. Beep.:D

I like how it was done in SMAC. I was kind of hoping they'd find a way of breaking down all the techs into 3-5 major categories and having a different voice actor do each group.

Nimoy >>>>> Sid

yeah that was pretty cool since they picked voices that fit the type of techs.

Nimoy was the best. The other guy I would pick would have been Patrick Stewart, has the theater presence voice.
Of course, I would love to hear William Shatner say "Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun."

I was thrilled to have Nimoy, and I'm thrilled to have Sid, too. I like the idea of Sid getting that extra aspect of immortality , that his voice will live on when his body can't .

I could've done without knowing what Sid sounds like.

Nimoy all the way.
