Siege Nerfed? I don't understand.

Allowing catapults to only take the defending unit down to 85% sounds to me like too big a change.

I think whats more likely to have happened is that the collateral damage caused to the OTHER units is capped at 85% instead of the old 50%. Such that a catapult is still able to kill the current defending unit as any normal unit could.

No, its been fairly confirmed Siege units can no longer kill units by attacking them.
(only by defending)

They should add a new promotion:

-Flanking III
Unit has a chance to attack the strongest siege unit first

flanking has been improved significantly versus siege.

What was said is that its somewhere along the lines of:

- If a catapult attacks a tile, units with flanking will do collateral damage to all siege units [catapults] on the attacker's side.

I forgot the exact details unfortunately since the post got deleted.

actually, certain units (Horse Archers, Cavalry.. maybe Curassiers and Marines?)
Will do Collateral damage to Siege units when they attack... IF they survive (unlike siege units which can do suicide collateral damage)... of course they don't have to WIN
so if a Horse Archer attacks a stack and retreats (with Flanking) its 'Flank Attack' allows it to do Collateral Damage to Catapults (and Trebuchets, I forget) in the stack.

Yes thats it...
Damn you know your stuff when it comes to BTS stuff.
I know it will include all cav [including cuirs] but I'm not sure about the marines - my guess would be that instead of marines it will be the gunships since they have both the withdrawal inherent and are more mobile in the real word, and finally in civ are the upgrade line for cavalry.

One cav excluded is likely to be the chariot since they don't conform to the standard cavalry upgrade line in Civ4 and are already a good attack unit along with a nice purpose [anti-axe]

I'm still not convinced about the catapult info. you're giving, I hope its not gonna be like you said otherwise I'd be very disappointed - here's hoping you're wrong
