Some hours ago the swiss president anounced that when the clock shows 1:00 pm (13:00) all churches bells in switzerland will toll for 5 minutes.

I really applaud this act.

Now I'd like all of us to think of those dead inocent people and keep a silent minute.
(a real one)

PS: To keep this thread up just post a after

What, 10 000 people dead? No big deal... Oh yeah they were americans, and theyre better than else.

 But anyway, it is sad

No, it is not the most important fact that they were American; they were human, and all good people should join in the mourning and rememberence, without defiling any memories of the dead for convoluted ideological purposes.

I seriously considered deleting a post here, which I never do.

I'll let it stand, as a monument to the stupidity and callousness that some people show in the face of trajedy.

It was also the only time I considered rating a poster, something I never would do otherwise.

But if ever anyone deserved a one star rating, it is here.

Oh, Juize: you're not funny, so quit the bullfeathers and do at least show some respect to those victims...

3 minutes of silence......but what does it help you? Nothing.... People in Europe remember the victims, but they didn't even know the victims. But still, my condolences to all of you who lost someone dear....

Look. I understand many of you don't get the reason for those things. (Silent minutes, etc...)
You are still young and this is difficult to understand sometimes.
Personally I find these kind of actions very imortant. Doesn't matter if you know the victims or not. By thinking of them, even for a little while, you show respect and compassion. You must always think that you COULD have lost somebody too. The fact that you didn't is pure luck in a way. You haven't done anything to avoid it. Thus you must show compassion for those who lost friends and familly.

Oh no no! You get me wrong! I find them very important! And I understand why they are here too! It's just that remembering doesn't help people at this moment, we should take action! Send clothes, food, you know. I know the US can do that herself, but we've been attacked in a way too..... We should do more than say 'It's bad what happened'. We should actually do things.

I find silent minutes very important. In Israel we have 2 annual memorial days, in which people stand and remember the holocaust and the IDF victims. All of that is happening while in the background there are sirens nation wide. Thats probably why Israelies are so united about our army and about stoping world wide natzism.
So I think if people all around the world will have these silent minutes, people will have time to think about all the victims and about why we should all make sure this will never happen again. In Israel we already had a day of sorrow about this terror attack. People were demonstrating in support of the US, teachers talked with their students, American flags everywhere.
So, here's my minute of silence

we had a few minutes of silence at the start of school,

Az, you are correct. It is indeed a great gesture.
I applaud and praise all of the decent human beings in this world that have shown their respect and condolences by raising flags at 1/2 mast, singing, and bowing their heads in times of silence. It does not matter that they may not know these people. What matters is that we on this earth are all brothers and sisters and it is respectful.

willemvanoranje, if you turn on the closest TV set, or the nearest radio or what ever form of multimedia reception you have at your disposal, you will see that many people ARE indeed doing somtheing. New Yorkers are working around the clock to dig out their colleagues, family and friends, even people that they do not know. There are so many people "doing something" that I am absolutely amazed to think that there can be so much good in the aftermath of this evil. There are no blood shortages, because people donated blood in droves to help. To suggest that others in this crisis, and/or around the world should not support these peoples efforts, also with silence and other gestures of mourning is.... well, I wont say what it is, but please re-think what you have stated.

Juize,
I have noted a few of your comments recently. I suggest that you close your mouth. It is better to leave it closed. You have said nothing intelligent, and you have shown the height of disrespect.
