Sim City (4) Succession Session!

Maybe something must be built at that middle sized square with two little islands NE Fort consternation plus a ferry terminal at Fort Consternation east coast so everything gets interconnected.

BTW, what have you done to my precious garbage mountain?
Kudos for the budgetary surplus though, some money was being wasted obviously, i didnt know clinics were of no use for industrial zones for instance.

And for the beach. Now New Eden is a little more Edenish. :goodjob:

Whoa, how'd you get that regional transport map? I didn't know such a thing existed.

Very nice development. I'm particularly happy with the peacefully expanding direction Spudsville is taking. As well as that it is proving to be an economically viable community.

And New Eden does seem to be returning to its roots, in a way. You certainly turned the budgetary situation around! I'm curious to see what Mythmonster does in his second term in New Eden.

Ahah, New Eden is looking good. I'm going to have to see it myself to figure out where I'll take it. Not sure if I'll do Spudsville, but I think I'll give Fort Consternation another go, too.

On the region view the first menu icon (I think) allows you to switch between a satellite view and a transport view. I didn't realise it existed until yesterday either.

Goddammit, I had a crash two years into New Eden and my first save was only 5 months in. I basically lost all the progress I'd made. At least I have pictures to guide me back to what I had.

I also set shadows to low because Ft. Consternation is so huge. On steam my launch options are: -intro:off -CPUCount:1 -EH:off -CustomResolution:enabled -r1680x1050x32 -w

And finaly there is an autosaver: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHozCfq9efc

I dont use it anymore because my simcity4 use to crash way too often. But not now anymore. I think my post has much imporant info so it should be copien on the first post?

Cool; thanks. Will try it when I'm back at my main computer and have some Sim City time.

I know the feeling. I was playing some SC3K for the first time in years a couple nights ago, and it crashed 4 years after the most recent save. I'd been saving every 5 years. :( I'll go back to it in a few days, but that was the end of that night's play.

Have you noticed a difference (in performance in particular, but stability is good, too) from the CPUCount or EH options? I just set shadows to low myself, but performance is still not great in Fort Consternation.

EH options?

Myth now returned to the Fort Consternation area, ready to shoulder the burdens of being mayor once more. But as he flew into the area, he saw that the area to its south was... different. Smokestacks rose into the sky of New Eden (smokestacks that he hadn't placed, at least). He decided to ignore Fort Consternation for now and went to New Eden where, after a long story involving poison ivy and an irate capitalist, he wound up as mayor again.

The city had changed a lot from when he left it. The hilly area to the north had become a huge industrial area, though apparently it was even worse before. Plus, the city was now benefiting from high-tech investors. He decided that he would lead New Eden into (another) new era, one in which it would become a haven for high-tech industrialists.

The very first thing he got upon entering office was that there were too many roads, especially in the industrial era. Seeing that most of the commuting there was on foot, he turned those into streets to save a few dollars on maintenance.

While in the industrial area, he also realized that most of the workers there were city slickers from Fort Consternation. This would not do, and so he embarked on a project to make New Eden grow. He found a suitable area just south of the city.
Spoiler :

Suburban sprawl would be the order of the day here. For variety, the area would look like a deformed wheel, with the center being where utilities would go.
Spoiler :

Before construction would begin, the neighborhood needed a name. And so it came to be that Verdant Fields was ready for construction. By the end of year two, one of the quarters was completely filled up with beautiful houses.
Spoiler :

In fact, Verdant Fields provided the push to make the city go over the 5,000 people mark, which led to the erection of New Eden's first statue, conveniently placed in the square at Verdant Fields.
Spoiler :

Now that that area had been dealt with, for now, Myth turned his head north again, to the blight of industry. Several fires had broken out, and so a new fire station had to be placed in the area.
Spoiler :

Of course, the new, modern New Eden really didn't have a place for these big industries (or at least, they could be kept in the valley to the west). So, the second large project began: replacing industry with high-tech and commercial. The first target was this hill next to the casino. Soon, the people staying in the hotel there could have a better view than smokestacks and mixing tanks
Spoiler :

Unfortunately, development was slow. Apparently, the area was too mountainous for large development, and so a few changes were made.
Spoiler :

Next on the hit-list was a farm close to the town center. Farms produced heavy water pollution, so this one had to go. In its place, however, was the brand new New Eden Central Plaza.
Spoiler :

The replacement of manufacturers with high-tech continued ever-onward, this time going all the way to the border of Fort Consternation
Spoiler :

At this point in time, the surplus was getting huge, nearing 10,000 per month. The fire coverage and police coverage was upped all around, and the New Eden Museum of CFC History was founded next to Verdant Fields.
Spoiler :

Finally, towards the end of his term, enough people had moved in that a second House of Worship was warranted. This, too, was placed in Verdant Fields. In addition, for the future, some of the older parts of New Eden were now zoned as medium density, to allow the construction of apartments. With a splash of money at the end, the Coit Tower was erected at the end of the Central Plaza as New Eden's first landmark.
Spoiler :

Final Stats
Population: 9,865 (+5,329)
Cash: $607,239 (+$314,558)
Surplus: $8,246/month (-$413)

Now that New Eden was in a respectable state, Myth prepared to go to Fort Consternation. But, his advisors said that he could kick up his feet and go relax in a new town across the sea, a farming community named Spudsville. Shrugging his shoulders, Myth got on a ferry and went to the new city.

Upon arriving there, though, a long story involving three pigs and an unfortunate tractor accident led to his election as the next mayor of the city. The city was a nice change of pace, with heavy industry forbidden outright by city code, as well as even medium-density development. The air was clean and the budget was small.

Speaking of budgets, the first issue that Myth encountered was that the local clinic was understaffed. A bit intimidated by the list of doctors there, he renamed the clinic "Dr. Hackem and Co.", and allowed a few more doctors to work there.
Spoiler :

For a few months, Myth was content to just zone a farm here and there, and bits of residential scattered about. However, Verdant Fields had left him in an expansionary mood, and so he set his eyes to the virgin peninsula to the south of the town center.
Spoiler :

Two roads, one following the coast and the other the hill to the east, led there, before creating a square. Agriculture was zoned in-between the two roads, and a bit of housing and commercial was created in the square. However, demand was low across the board, and so it took two whole years for this meager development to take place
Spoiler :

Myth wondered if maybe this didn't have something to do with the appalling laziness of the people in this community, like this fine worker here.
Spoiler :

Fortunately, growth picked up a bit, and he decided to put in a softball field for the new residents.
Spoiler :

The rest of the term was quiet. Some useless power lines were demolished and a new water tower was put in, as well. Besides that, the community slowly grew at its own pace, so slowly in fact that Myth accidentally stayed in a whole week later than he was supposed to. Content with this, he packed his bags for Fort Consternation at last.

Final Stats
Population: 4,098 (+894)
Cash: $65,484 (-$5,878)
Surplus: $355/month (+$173/month)

Fort Consternation was definitely looking up from when he had left it. The surplus was very comfortable and there was a good deal of cash in the coffers. Plus, the last mayor had made education their top priority, and the effects could be seen. Unfortunately, it seemed they were a bit too interested in it, since several overfunded museums existed throughout the city. Myth's first act was to cut the spending on those and direct them to needy schools.

While education was looking good, health was a major issue. Southside's hospital had reached full capacity even with no ambulance funding, and that was one of the better-off ones! Many others were direly unfunded, with Central Park's hospital having nearly twice as many patients as it could handle. Health care was therefore Myth's #1 priority this term.
Spoiler :

Two hospitals were created right off the bat: Corner Care Center in the southwest corner of the city and Beachfront Care near, well, the beach. Unfortunately, a museum had to be destroyed to fit the latter, but it was rather underused, anyway.
Spoiler :

At this point, costs got a bit high for Myth's taste, so a few very old coal plants were demolished. The city had a comfortable surplus of power even after they were gone, anyway. Unfortunately, the Corner Care Center was quickly overwhelmed by patients, and so an annex had to be founded just a few blocks away to split the load.
Spoiler :

This seemed to do the trick, and within a few months and with a little jiggering of the ambulance funding to overlap hospitals, every hospital but Central Park was doing good. After this, a new target was made, unrelated to health. Industry was a central feature of the city, from its very beginning. But now, high-tech industry was in huge demand, and it promised clean jobs. In a riskymove, Myth raised taxes on manufacturers to 11%, driving away any new demand for them. Then, he demolished an area of industry in the southern part of the city to see if his gamble would work.
Spoiler :

And work it did, beyond his expectations. Tech moved in immediately, filling up the area. Fort Consternation could now move beyond the industry that had aided it for so long.
Spoiler :

However, before he could continue his crusade on manufacturers, a huge strike broke out at Fort Consternation Medical Center. The poor hospital was at full funding and only serviced the immediate area, but still it was nearly double capacity.
Spoiler :

Myth had to create a new hospital to relieve it, but there seemed to be nowhere it could happen without tearing down a skyscraper. Finally, he found a pair of dilapidated mansions that could go, and go they did, to bring in Downtown Medical Center. To his dismay, though, this place, too, was immediately swamped.
Spoiler :

Finally, he placed down a third hospital, as a last shot at keeping the area healthy. Trifecta Medical Center took another mansion with it, but also some apartment buildings. And, again to his dismay, it was immediately over capacity...
Spoiler :

But when he checked the other two, he found they were now below capacity! Again, some careful adjustment of the ambulance funding left the first two hospitals in the clear, with Trifecta only about 500 over capacity, a much more manageable level.

With that crisis solved, Myth looked over to the area around the Bank of China tower. Unfortunately, industry had sprung up at the base of the skyscraper, dirtying up the area. Commercial areas benefited from being near landmarks, and so the industrial area was demolished and commercial zoned in its wake. A similar story happened near the Movie Studio next to Hollywood Hill, but high-tech sprung up rather than commercial areas. Maybe they could be used for sci-fi films?

Finally, towards the end of the term, the population peaked at over 500,000 people. Unfortunately, after a large fire that got out of hand, that number quickly dropped by 3,000, and would not reach it again before the end of the term. The final work Myth did in this term was to create a Waste to Energy Plant to help with landfill concerns, as the current landfills were quickly nearing capacity.

Final Stats
Population: 496,873 (+5,384)
Cash: $599,046 (+$520,406)
Surplus: $13,619/month (+$4,740)

Some notes: Apparently, I'm bad at spending money. There can be worse problems, I suppose. I'll be excited to see what future mayors will do with the huge deposits I've left Fort Consternation and New Eden (Note to Peck: the city's name is Eden Prime on the first page. Also, my last term in Fort Consternation currently links to your term).

Well looks like I as well reached my photobucket bandwith limit. How can I know when a month has been passed and limit is lifted?

Well well. Looks like you gave me key to heaven. I promise to waste all of that money :D

btw why does city look so clean? Is it because of your graphic settings?

edit: upload save also please

Things are starting to look good again. It is true I miscalculated the road requeriments for the industrial zone at new Eden. Some could be demolished to get more space.

Also i read somewhere that a major factor for high tech development is how flat the terrain is, so i think that some industries or some mountains at FC need to be removed!

Looks like I have some kind of graphical glitch. When I load region everything is normal so it is only a small annoy. Any ideas of reason?

Spoiler :

Wops, I dont have that large monitor. Strange image uploader.

@calad soemtimes if you have sim city open in windowed mode (especially on steam) the game can create that glitch in region view depending on where your last camera view point was in the city when you saved, it'll go away after another save if you zoom out all of the way and save in the city :)

Wow, Verdant Field has to be one of the nicest looking housing estates I think I've seen, look how green that grass is! (On second thoughts, the fact that it's basking in the glow of a twilight of some kind helps a lot, but still)

I've fixed the front page, too. Thanks for pointing that out, I keep mixing up New Eden with Eden Prime; I don't know why- I've never even played Mass Effect
