What is "Capitalization" in the City improvements and what it is good for?? If i want to buil it what will happen with the City??

Thanks for helpin<br />noni

Capitalization isn't really something you 'build' When you choose capitalization in a city then all the shields that city produces each turn are not shields but gold. It is a way to generate revenue when needed or when there is nothing useful left to build in a city.

I have heard that it is also a way to 'save' shields in a city. When you change to capitalization in a city any shields already in the box do not go away. If you decide later to build something in the city all the shields that were in the box when you changed to capitalization will go towards your new build choice. I've not done this but it may also be a way to avoid the 50% penalty when changing from one type of build to another. Anyone out there know if this would work: Say you have a research lab part way done but want a stealth bomber instead. Would switching from lab to capitalization then to bomber transfer all the generated shields from the lab to the bomber?

If you have 30 shields and switch to Capitalization, you will lose 15 shields at warlord and higher.

Later, when you come out of Capitalization, you can apply those remaining shields to you new project.

Also remember, the Capitalization gold is not puth thru the Temple or Bank or Stock Exchange multipliers. It is a straight up conversion of shields into gold. In late game, 50 shields can be worth 8,000 if you do it right... large map, Uranium to a big, distant city (demanding Uranium) with SH & and airport, and lots of trade citizens. The 8,000 could be 4,000 gold and 4,000 science. All for a measly freight!

After I build almost all the improvements and get routes going, I build capitalization. It doesn't matter if you lose shields, capitalization just depends on the production of your city. I never had a city halve its production just because I switch the capitalization even under diety.

The only time I ever bother to use Capitalization is when I've run out of structures to build and have all the units I need.

Basically, it's just there for me to kill time with.

You can laugh if you want (I sometimes do) but even I don't know the 'real' reason for Capitalization. :p

Thats exactly when I use it, when my best cities have run out of things to build and are two far from the frontline to use them to build any units. Especially if my main cities are on a separate island from my enemies because I may as well use quite good cities to build unit, next to the enemy.

I never use Capitalization - if any city has nothing better to do with its time, I have it build freight.

sure, but once your resources are gone, capitalism is useful to gain extra cash.

After thinkking about this a bit more i now remember that I have had to use it a couple of times but I'm not really very good at the game... :( So I tend to just try anything and hope that iot works. I have spent plenty of games just selling barracks to keep the cash flow going.

Capitalization is one of the most valuable concept in my games.. I often have a LOT of cities, and building freight in all of those that have nothing better to do is just too time consuming..

Freight can only be used to trade 3 resources though. Once I've traded away those three resources, and all my cities have enough food, it is just a waste to build more freights. In this circumstance, and usually only this circumstance, do I build capitalism. And this is only if I have all my cities defended, and the borders (usually if I'm under communism), and I'm not at any wars, either. And who knows how many constant other conditions. Bottom line: I rarely use capitalism.

Why is the capitalism "improvement" allowed under Communism?

Not necessarily! :p You can continue to trade some repeating resources (often hides) and receive gold and science beakers for each, even if they don't make a permanent route. Eventually your city will offer up new goods to trade, too. Don't forget about using those "worthless" freights for wonder building...

afaik, Capitilisation is treated as a wonder, so if you get gazumped on a wonder, or you have a new wonder coming availabel in a few turns, you can stick the same wonder into construction in two cities, then when it is about to be completed, change production to capitilisation, then when new wonder is available, switch to it.

afaik, this works with zero penalties, but I dont play on that high a level ...

Hey thanks! I didn't know that  I'm sure it'll come in handy in a game...

If you get that much gold, how do you use it? Have you disabled the money limit or something because after 4 turns you would be effectively getting nothing because you would have reached the maximum (30000). Perhaps you rush build alot or something.
