I cannot grasp this concept. This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

I've read many descriptions, and made two conclusions. Therefore, it's either:

1) Completely the same as turn-based play, but it's called different for no reason whatsoever.

2) An unplayable twitchy real-time mess that should have nothing to do with a game like Civilization.

Civilization is simple. You play, then I play, then the third guy plays. Then you play again. So what the hell is this?

Can you explain the context of this? Is there an option to have this in Civ III? Why are you asking this?

BTW WELCOME to the forums :). :band:

Thanks for the welcome.

It's a multiplayer option. I ask because, come weekend, I am about to start an epic game spanning weeks with several friends, but currently, I am not in a position to find out just how multiplayer works. I'd like for us to be prepared is all, it will be hard enough to coordinate four people without all the uncertainty over the mechanics.

Probably best asked in the Multiplayer & PBEM Forum. >>Here<<

Right.

I've just tried this out with a friend.

I have lost the modicum of faith in humanity I used to pretend I have.

What the. Can I swear here? It doesn't matter, no word can convey this.

Here's a perfect hallmark moment - I was with war with my said friend and I've been roaming the map with my warrior. I was about to release my mouse button and make the move, when his scout just appears out of the black and I attack him *accidentally*.

... I don't know what to say, this is not a mess I thought it would be, it is ten times that. How -- no no no, best say -- why do people play in this mode?

Well, I didn't see this thread early, but I'm not sure what your problem is. You just make your moves at the same time so the game goes faster. There is an element of timing involved if you are at war with another human but otherwise I haven't seen a problem. Every time I've tried to move into a tile where another human got there just a second before I've had the 'Are you sure you want to declare war on them" question, there could be some glitch with a scout since we don't play expansive.

There is an exploit where you can move units into a city under attack so the city doesn't get taken (even when its the AI attacking it) and probably a few other little things like that, but nothing game breaking. It is much faster than PBEM or Hotseat and doesn't have the 'cant see opponent moves' bug that hotseat has.

Other than the scout what exactly is the problem?

Simultaneous moves is the only thing civ players play on the internet. Its the best man. It makes multiplayer civ3 possible withing a 2-4 hour time frame. With about 4 players its like 2 hours to paly, with 6 or 8 players its more like 4-5 hours. Im an active online civ player and This make civ possible online. There is a timer that can be set as fast, slow, or normal, and as ur civ grows, timer for all palyers gets bigger. Like 1 min for first turn, 1.5 min for 2nd. But if all palyers press space at the end of turn, next round starts. It shows up who sitll didnt finish turn so whenever i play, i threaten that whoever finishes last ,I attack first. XD. There is a trick you dan do with ships and cavarly when surprise attacking tho. When there is 10 seconds left in timer or ur the last person to finish turn, you stack-move as many troops as you want into enemy territory and as soon as the next turn begins, you stack-attack that city before palyer has time to prepare. Also, I hate it when an opponent unloads 8 immortals by my coastal city with 5 secs left to go and immediatly attack my city the folowing turn. Especially, in MPT games where any city lost is death to whole civ.(elimination). Also when you see a goody hut and theres a rival next to it, you need to get that hut before your opponent. It makes the game more intense. Your opponents are unpredictable.

You guys seriously start clicking "multiplayer options/internet" and download Gamespy arcade and get in the fun! your missing out great events! Moslty ppl are active 3-7 pm EST.

LONG LIVE CIV3 ONLINE!!!!
