single order for multiple workers?

I have got multiple workers working on a railroad. I can move them as a stack but I can't find a way to tell them all to build a railroad. I have to activate each one in turn and issue the build railroad order. Is it possible to tell them all at once to build the railroad?

Yes, it is possible, not only to build railroad but to do everything as a stack. I just don't remember how right now since I don't play for about 3 months

But try to enable advanced unit actions at the options screen, you will see a way more buttons than it used to be, it may be there.

One of the advanced options is to 'Rail To (some city)'. The AI will determine the best rail route to that city, but it may not be the route you want.

There is not a commnad that works like "This stack of workers: Rail this tile!". Each worker has to be assigned individually.

And,

eh?
Isn't that a 'rail to' command and then you say where to rail to?

How I do it, it take a worker and let him 'rail to' the other end of my continent. Then the next, I let him 'rail to' another end of my continent, so with all workers working rails from one end to the other across each other, I know I won't be bothered with commanding workers for a few turns.

The bestest way to do it it though is to connect all cities and then let pairs of workers (most efficient) work the main cities first and let them rail all worked tiles.

Yes, and that it what I thought he was asking about at first. Then I reread his post and saw that he was talking about when once the stack of workers got to a tile and having to instruct each of them individually.

Like moving a stack of slaves onto a jungle tile and then having to click Cntrl + C for each one of them in order to clear that blasted jungle tile in one turn.

That's true, you can't give a single order for the stack if it's not for moving them all.

I remember now.

It was such a pain when I needed to clear out the pollution, I was able to move the stack to the polluted tile, but then it was like "clear, clear, clear, clear, clear"... with every single one. Boring as hell.

you can automate them to clear wetlands or automate to make trade only.
I've never tried it though.

I don't remember if there is a way to automatic clear the pollution, but even so, if there is more than one polluted tile per turn (it happens all the time) the workers would start to act really annoying (sometimes it used to give me nausea, really, when I used just to hotkey them to clear without sending them straight to the polluted tile as a stack first, you know what I mean?)

My eyes were like :crazyeye:

It can be avoided turning off the animations, but I don't like the game without it.

Thanks for all the help. I guess I'll have to carry on moving as a stack and then multiple clicks to issue the same orders. At least I can give up trying to find a quick way to do it now!

In the Civ3 - Succession Game "Rat45 CCM - Gideon's Band" (with CommandoBob as one of the participants) we also run into the problem of using a lot of time to set always the same worker commands, especially on huge maps and with players who have the intention, that in the end of the game a Civ 3 world has to look like Coruscant (an option that I don´t share).

A nice idea, that unfortunately cannot be realized with the game-engine of Civ 3, was the idea of a "worker-army".

Possible for mods is the solution of a "superworker" I experimented with such a unit (as it seems there is a need for it in later gameplay on bigger maps), and such a unit will come in the next version of CCM (with stats somewhat modified to the stats in the discussion of the linked thread).

the advanced worker buttons have a 'clear damage' button which includes pollution. I use it a lot when I have pollution. I just click a worker or stack and click it. They will find it on their own and by the time you have a lot of pollution, you should have railed everything but the kitchen sink.

The auto clear pollution button (I believe it's ctrl + d) makes the screen goes crazy because it sends the workers one by one and it's very annoying.

And I remember now what you are saying about auto clear damage, it happens always at the end of the turn, so you don't have to press the button for every worker every turn, but the conclusion was it is almost the same since without a stack the screen acts crazy anyway.

If you don't want the craziness of watching workers scurrying to clear pollution just untick "Show Automatic moves" when you get to that part of the game.

Yes but or I do it every single turn or I do it for good and stay without the animations till the end of the game. Both options are bad.

Unless there is a "do not show automatic moves" only for workers units.

I don't play sincer forever, I don't remember a lot.
