There has been some postings so let us have a go.

I made one up with gold mountain and port access.City is founded with 2nd settler mining city square. You have Alphabet to start.

Game is deity, raging, restarts on.Remember to save before entering any flatland huts less you get hit with an advancer :o

Give them whatever they want ;)

I actually gave 50 to a civ at first contact allready.Don't like to do that but it was either pay up or lose my only horse to a legion.

Give them whatever they want

Even if they ask you the 500 gold in youre vaults you really need to buy that colossus?

Damned ,this game was going good ,i had collosus ,a NON unit vet legion defending my city ,already 2 trade routes ,but science was going awfull slow ,even while using the sea tile for trade.Guess i popped to much huts with science.Anyway ,got killed again by the pesky Ai ,nibbed me with catapults. :(

hehehe..must be MGE.

You'll have to be a more skillful diplomat with MGE..kinda ;)..more like sneaky..

Wait until you have 3-4 techs to give. This should be able to take them to worshipful and then you can get your goodies out of them all on the same meeting.
Don't contact when you have over 100 gold or so.If they are less than cordial, they will demand most of your gold.Spend it first and then contact them. With low gold levels they will demand tech instead, which you want to give to them anyways.

Alliances and gifts can be done in MGE.Its just abit trickier.Experiment with it.Pick your spots.

With MGE,I found demanding at first contact profitable.Don't make any demand if the other civ demands first though. This will almost certainly result in war with MGE.

Yeah ,this worked my last game ,but the worshipfull only lasts for a few turn's.You have to effectively go back from time to time always with 3/4 tech's in advance to get some gold out of them. And you got to get it just right ,if you need 4 tech's to sway one and you got only three ,then it's all for nothing ,as you won't have them as ally. And sometime's ,you give them 3 tech's and then they say that for now they have to much work to do ,so they leave you.Now that's really annoying.I noticed that most of the times it only work's to get gold reguraly with the more friendly civ's ,like the Indian's.Aint no much to get out of those damn zulu's anyway.

It was just ,the last game ,most of them came to me and declared war.Not even a demand for gold ,just immediate war.And if they demand gold ,it's all of it.Now you can say ,don't keep to much gold in youre vault's ,but you surely need lots of it if you'r planning to complete collosus and copernicus ,i don't think i can make it on pure production alone. And the moment's after spending? Or they don't wanna contact me ,or i just even aint the tech's to sway them.

Damn Mge ,is this easier in classic?

On the bright side ,these game's go fast ,so you can try it more than once.Afcourse now i know where the other civ's are.
Oh well ,of for another try ,it must be possible anyway.

Eeef! I never even knew there was a difference between classic and MGE in that way...

Its probably easier in 2.42.Just due to you not having to wait to make negotiations. In the end they hate you in both versions :)

Played till 20 AD and doing well I think.Collosus and Cope's are built. All civs contacted and alliances producing tons of gold and tech although I just lost a civ to war and I'm not sure if there is room for a restart.Hope so.Currently have 23 techs,of which only 7 are "white".

I've never tried an OCC before, let alone one at size 1. I tried it on 2.42 since I figured the AI would be easier.

I didn't keep a log though.....

1AD Save

The main issues I have are that I built and delivered my three caravans, but have not had the choice to rebuild any of them since then. I got bogged down in other techs before trying to get to Astronomy. Techs are at 27 turns tight now. To complicate that my Key Civ is now the only Civ that I am at war with. I am allied with all the other Civs. Then, to top it off, I was trying to build the optimal road path to one of my delivery cities, but then they put a unit right on where I think the path is suppose to go. I probably also wasted gold on buying some units, but they have worked out pretty well by taking out barb leaders.

2.42 is hugely different from MPG. I'm wondering if we should separate them for the GOTM. The hut results were great and the AI is happy to give me money most of the time.

I went for early Republic and I'm not sure why but I used the NON settler as a scout hoping to find huts near the Sioux which would give another NON unit so the settler could return home. This didn't happen and my settler went further and further away. I got into a war with the Zulus (maybe should have payed 50g instead) and I succesfully used the settler in this war, putting it on a mountain and letting horsemen and warriors attack it. When they started building Legions I decided it was time to return home. The disadvantage is I don't have a road to the city I'm trading with, Sparta.

I built a trireme and sent diplomats to the north and south poles to look for huts which so far has been succesful.

No need to make separation between 2.42 and MGE.I wish I had a version of MGE so I could show how alliances can be milked. The earliest OCC landing were done with MGE by Ribannah iirc.

Anyhoo, played the next session until 1020AD.

Still going ok.35 techs now and 4 wonders(Leo's is the other".I did finally get the road connection bonus and I have bribed one settler with the idea of Leo's upgrade to engineers and then RR to Wounded Knee. There are 2 different routes that qualify for connection bonus.Needless to say I had a little trouble getting the right squares .Don't know if building Leo's was worth it or not,but I had a pile of camels lying about so...

I also have not been able to build any commodities since the first 3.Unblocking techniques do not work in OCC.

Allied with 5.I am 7th in a few demographics so blue did restart.I just havn't found them "again" yet.Soon I hope.

I'll just add that my settler has been doing the improving around Wounded Knee.Irrigated and roaded the rivers for them.It is built 1 square from being able to reach 2 gold mountains iirc.Tremendous potential lost there :(

This game would be easier if you had not chosen White as our civ: if another civ is KeyCiv, you can tech-gift and get a lower beaker count that when you are your own key civ.

Question to several players: was building Colossus worth it? You are only working two squares, so you only get two extra arrows out of 200 Shields.

Did anyone use the Forest rather than the Ocean for faster building (vs slower tech)?

A single starting tech is also a hindrance, as you could really use a few to set up a tech advantage. Also, I think I remember Samson talking about having a Forested River tile within his city radius.

I played this one to 1AD over the weekend but found my tech slowing down significantly. Alliances with Sioux and Greeks, Early Republic and gifted to all civs, 3 trade routes (Greeks, Sioux, Zulu) pretty quickly, NONE Archer defending city, 1 or two Barb Ldrs captured. Some gold coming from alliances but difficulty building things. All caravans blocked; most unblocking strategies assume your Supply commodities change over time due to increasing size of city, addition of techs, or transformation of terrain. The only one that is changing in this game is the techs, and they are slowing down so much that I am struggling to keep up with gifting demands. Not good.

Actually samson mentioned the techs when he founded the city - Alphabet, Code, and Masonry - Half way to early Republic when he founded the first city, plus an instant advantage on gifts and keyciv gifting. Having 3 none units from huts before founding his city didn't hurt, either. This game looks to be much more of a challenge.

With a size 1 city, you start to wonder if anything is worth building ;)

I think Collosus was worth it.As mentioned, any little bit has to help...I think.

Yes I used the forest early to speed up warriors.Never thought of it but a forested river would be most beneficial.

I've had a bad happening where my trade routes went from +6 to plus +4 for no apparent reason.Roads are clear and still intact and the AI did not change governments. Can't figure it out at all.Science went all the way down to 9 turns with many techs left yet to discover.Lord knows how many turns it will be if I actually make it to Spaceflight

I think I will be quite pleased just to win this.It could be very exciting down the stretch.

I gave up.

I have played till about 1700AD but I never got the road bonus and I don't know why. I sent a diplomat to Sparta, which I am trading with, with the goto command and built a road on the path that he went. Trade routes still bring in 3 arrows each though, which is the same as in the BC's. The Greeks are Democrats and I have built roads around Sparta but that doesn't seem to help either.

Good points made by Elephant and I would like to add one thing also. If we play another game it would be nice to have our city close to an AI city and preferrably the capital of a science oriented civ.
