Gifts are gotten thru alliances.To get allainces you gift all techs.Everything up to Combustion.I mean you meet a new civ,you gift everything you have.That brings them to worshipful.You can gift right up to Fusion Power but you need to use your judgement.
This is harder in MGE but can be done.You wait longer until you can gift 4 or more techs.Then gift away.One of the better OCCers(Ribannah) uses MGE exclusively.So it is possible.Much easier in 2.42 though- although Rib's landings are usually the earliest or darn close.

A slightly edited position with 2 whales,2 wine and a plains city square so you get just enough food for size 4 when working the specials.1 hut has been opened(to remove random luck) and you have a horseman.
