SJ1 - Save the Capitals

OK, got it!

OK, that's the next 20 turns completed. It has seen the founding of the future thriving metropolis known as Leipzig, and, er, not much else:

3000BC

2950BC Worker mines incense, settler built, Berlin switched to Spearman, as Persians are very close. Send settler south to try to block off Persia.

...

2850BC Persians request that I leave their territory - only passing through anyway.

...

2710BC Leipzig founded, and set to Spearman

...

2510BC Having set warrior back to the west, find huts. Terrain looks better here.

2470BC Berlin completes Spearman, set to settler. Fortify Spearman. Hut gives..........4 Vandal Warriors. Damn. Glad I built the Spearman, and set Leipzig to Spearman, too.

2430BC No more warrior. Damn again.

2390BC Vandals appear in the environs of Berlin.

2350BC Vandals encroaching.

2310BC Leipzig completes Spearman, stay on spearman for the mo.

2270BC Spearman in Berlin successfully defends against two of the warriors - promoted to veteran, hurrah!

2230BC Other two attack, spearman takes 50% hit, but is upgraded to élite. Hurrah again!

2190BC Move worker to start connecting Berlin to Leipzig

End of Rule

Herewith the savegame.

BTW, look at purchasing pottery from Xerxes. Wasn't quite worth it when I tried, but will be soon, methinks.

Eklekticos...You are up.

Ok, planning on playing through my turns this evening. One question - is this game being played using v1.29f? Just wanna be sure everyone'll be able to use my saved game.

Yes...I started the game on 1.29f.

Preturn: Changed Leipzig from spearman to warrior to allow a bit more immediate exploration. Bought pottery from Persia for 90 gold

2150 BC: Leipzig builds warrior, and I switch production to worker. Start moving warrior west.

2110 BC: Nothing new to report.

2070 BC: Berlin builds settler, and I switch production to spearman. Start settler moving towards my chosen city site and set wrrior to go to same spot to act as temporary defence.

2030 BC: Nothing new to report.

1990 BC: Leipzig builds worker, and I switch production to granary. Send worker to road and mine plains w/wheat to north or Leipzig.

1950 BC: Nothing new to report.

1910 BC: Our warrior & settler arrive at my chosen site and sight suspicious persian spearman/settler stack on hill to northwest of Pasargadae.

1870 BC: Our new city of Hamburg is built on hills SSW of Berlin, and within 1 border expansion of wines. I buy ceremonial burial from Persia for 90 gold. I set Hamburg to build temple.

1830 BC: We discover iron working and begin researching the wheel. Iron deposit materializes beneath Hamburg, the only one we currently have knowledge of! :). Road between Berlin & Leipzig completed, move one worker to begin road between Berlin & Hamburg.

1790 BC: Aforementioned Persian stack moves onto tile adjacent to the wine near Hamburg.

1750 BC: Nothing new to report.

1725 BC: Persian stack wanders off into the west...

1700 BC: Barbarian warrior appears NW of Berlin. Berlin builds spearman, and I switch production to barracks. Start spearman on its way to Hamburg.

1675 BC: Persians build city of Arbela by the coast away to the W of Hamburg, and thankfully out of reach or the wine tile.

1650 BC: Barbarian warrior arrives at gates of Berlin, two more warriors sighted on the horizon.

1625 BC: Barb warrior attacks Berlin. Elite spearman beats it like a redhaired stepchild and emerges unharmed. Spearman arrives in Hamburg and I wake warrior then start moving it to Berlin to be issued a nice new sword.

1600 BC: The two aforementioned Barb warriors arrive at gates of Berlin.

1575 BC: Barb warriors attack berlin. Elite spearman introduces them to a whole world of pain, sustaining 1hp damage in the process.

1550 BC: Our warrior arrives in Berlin.

1525 BC: Berlin - Hamburg road completed. Berlin builds barracks, and I switch to swordsman. Upgraded warrior to swordsman :D

End of reign stats: 67 Gold (+8 per turn), The Wheel (29 turns).

Saved game here.

May want to consider a pop-rush in Hamburg. That way we can take the wine early and keep culture higher than the adjacent city to maintain those tiles that are between us right now.

Yech, this is a pretty lousy start. Still, I've seen worse...

(Somebody stopped one turn early; the changeover should be at 1500 BC. I'll play to 1000.)

Science slider changed from 20% to 10% (it still gives one beaker.)

Berlin swapped to granary - it's gonna need it in that low-food area. Hamburg too - the wines are locked up, and our cities won't be big enough to need them for quite a while.

1450 BC: Liepzig builds granary, starts worker (it's got only one two-food tile - it needs some irrigation like a millenium ago.)

1375: Liepzig worker -> worker.

1300: Liepzig worker -> barracks.

X-man has three contacts: Egyptians, Russians, and French. However, he won't trade any of them. (Why did we never send a warrior to explore to the north?)

I change my mind and swap Hamburg back to temple, then whip it. Reason: the wines are the only other two-food square Hamburg will have for quite a while, so we should get that in play. Hamburg starts a granary next.

Our four workers are irrigating one square per turn.

1200 BC: Berlin finishes granary, starts an archer to go exploring to the north.

1000 BC: Archer meets a barb horse and goes elite! But the horseman first trampled our King, and the empire must now seek a new leader. Here were Thunderhawk's dying thoughts:

Finish the minimum research on The Wheel (it's 8 turns away). Don't buy any tech until we make some contacts.

I whipped a sword in Berlin this turn; it could be changed to a settler instead if the next leader wants. Liepzig's available to whip, but the other two have whip memory. Hamburg could be swapped to a barracks now if the next leader wants.

The worker to the south is trying to build a road to the Persian capital. We can either rush out swords now - eight or so should take Arbela and Pasargadae - or we can trade Persia some Incense for a contact or two, build up even more swords, and wipe them out after the deal runs out.

Trickey...you are next. After you is my turn, but I'm going to have to bump....I have family staying at my house this week. Pillager, you'll be next after Trickey.

5. Trickey (playing)
1. SirJethro (skip)
2. Pillager (on deck)
3. Eklekticos
4. T-Hawk

Regarding Persia...we are in need of some good land...I'm in favor of taking the two cities earlier. Remember, we can't take the capital, so we need to think about Culture as well as military before we take the city near their capital, or we will just lose it later on (which may happen one way or another).

If we can drum up all of the contacts in one or two trades with them though, it is worth waiting the 20 turns.

I assume that we're going to stick at 20 turns each for the time being?

Let's stick with 20 turns until we get a little further in, then we can all decide if we want to stick or switch.

1. Berlin, sword-sword.

2. Berlin goes into dissorder. we need all the production we can get from thre so i decide to up the lux rate.

3. order restored in berlin. Xerses establishes a embassy in our capital. Our exploring archer spots a 3 silk area to the north. a good futur city spot

4.

5. lepzig, sword-sword.

6. france completes Pyramids. Xerses starts the oracle. Its turns out that there is four sikls to our north.

7. we discover the wheel. begin researching horseback riding. I see a purple border!

8. Russia finishes collosus. berlin- sword to spear. We need to stop going into dissorder when our city groes. lepzig, sword-sword. We finish road to wines. So now Berlin is switched back to seord, the wines will negate the dissorder.

9. We make contact with America. I knew Xerses was being a cheap B*stard. he wanted like 180-200 for 1 tech. I got horseback Riding, Masonry, Mysticsm, and the alpahbet. All for 180 gold and conatct with the persians.

10. We now have a trade route with Persia.

11. Contact with Ghandi. Hes being greedy, so dont trade with him. He has contact with about 5 other civs.

12. Hamburg, granary-sword.

13. berlin, sword-sword. trade our puny world map for contact with Babs. We make comtact with the french.

14. lepzig, sword-sword.

14.

15. persia gets the Great Library. I whip a sword in Hamburg. Youl see why.

16. We declare war on Persia! The swordsman that i whipped destroyed a vet archer and captured a settler that was passing through our territory. Damn, we lose a sword attacking their spearman. Contact with egypt.

17We attack Pasagrade. Our swordsmen win with no casualties. one of em turns elite. we take Ablraela the same turn with no casualties! We capture a settler. Lepzig an Berlin are switched from swords man to settler. We must colonize to the north!

18. lepzig, settler-spearmen.

19. We capture a Perian settler.

20. We sue for peace with Persia. We get writing, mathmatics, and polythinsm. 172 gold, world map, and contact with Russia.

SUMMARY.

War with Persia went very well. But all the capture cities were auto-razed. The land to the north is very fertile. We must colonize it qucikly.

Got it. Will post back ASAP.

Couldn't do my total 20 turns, managed to do just 15. I'm afraid a rather large batch of Barbs appeared on my last turn - bit of a sticky spot at which to leave I'm afraid.
