I want some basic build orders to do a rushdown play on my friend who is quite better than me mid-late/game since he's played a lot more.

There's some videos and stuff, but I think it would be alot easier just to see a build order typed out.

Like:
scout/monument/settler x 3 / spam jaguars and GO!

he is good at defending, he will have a few archers + good position around his initial city, can be hard to penetrate in, my amateur jaguar rushes keep failing.

Problem is, your starting spot will have a big impact on build order and research path. For example, if you don't have copper, you'll have a hard time pulling off an axe rush. Also, you can't rush at all if he's too far away - units move too slow that early in the game. So there's no specific answer for your question.

In general though, unless you're playing as Egypt or Persia, I'd research BW first, find the nearest plot of copper, settle your second city there asap, then start spamming axes from both cities. Meanwhile, have workers build roads towards enemy borders. Once you've got 6-8 axes, off you go...

If you're Egypt or Persia, go AH and take advantage of the unique unit replacement for the chariot (assuming you have access to horse). I'd try to bring 8-10 to compensate for lower strength.

In both cases, the key to victory is being fast - use chopping and whip to get your units out. You want to be at his doorstep before he's had time to put together much of a defense, since your reinforcements will be too slow to be of much help. In fact, if you end up needing reinforcements, you've probably failed the rush.

Workers weren't mentioned in the original post. How are you using them? They're extremely important...

And you don't need a monument in your capitol in case you're doing that.

It sounds like you could use some empire management tips since you seem newer at this. At lot of these mechanics I will mention can be honed in single player except some practices or guidelines you might hear would leave you vulnerable if you don't keep a strong standing army.

• Usually in a peaceful single player game most players build worker first. Of course unless you know the map you're on gives you your own island or that it is large for the number of civs on it you will want to build a warrior unit first. I've heard of people partially building a warrior unit then going into the city screen by double clicking the city bar, and switching to a worker unit so they can switch back and finish a warrior if trouble arrives. When managing the que order like this just click on the unit you'd like to switch to whenever you want and the game will save the hammers you invested in other builds (it'll start to decay eventually). There is a little wonkiness with switching the que order that I won't explain fully here.

• Normally you examine the land in around the capitol and research the techs needed to improve the food resources as food is very important. But it's also good to tech bronze working if you have forest tiles in range, your worker can chop forests for a surge in production that increases with mathematics. You normally want to do early chops to get ahead in expansion and military.

• If copper is revealed, that's good, even better if it's already in your borders. You need to hook it up to your cities with a mine and roads with possibly rivers and coasts if within your borders (or if you have sailing). Just in case you got by so far with no workers and resourceless UUs. When copper is connected to your cities it allows you to build axemen which is a very very strong unit in its time unless they use chariots (then you can mix it up with spearmen).

• It's often better to position your cities to not need a border expansion right away to make use of food or resources. A more advanced tactic involves settling cities close to each other to share tiles so they can work them at different times (usually cycling slavery and growth cycles) but I would just keep that in mind for latter.

I could go on for too long... fyi Jaguars are a fairly difficult unit to use offensively on their own unless you get them before they have metal. They are very good however at denying them their forests and keeping pressure around their empire by just being in the woods. Keep an eye on his stacks and try to get ahead economically using this strategy as jaguars rarely win wars on their own.
