unicorns aren't fluffy. Back when I was playing Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion I couldn't bring myself to kill the unicorn as part of a morally dubious quest and decided to keep it as a steed instead. It was very powerful so it made a useful ally, despite its tendency to wander off if left alone. Unfortunately it got psychotic anyone drawing a weapon, including soldiers who were helping me out against marauders, so I had to kill it in the end

So anyway, I think that gives a nice alternative vision of unicorns untameable nature/druid-aligned beasts with a screwed-up idea of pacifism.
