Slightly OT with a silly question

So, the FF further installer offers to put a shortcut on your desktop for convenience. When it does this, it puts it on the desktop of not only the active user, but all the users on the computer.

My wife doesn't like clutter on her desktop, so she throws it away. Instead of just removing it from her desktop, it removes it from mine as well. Then, when I go to the FF mod directory, there is no direct launcher there.

My questions:
1) Why does my wife's tidiness ruin my shortcut?
2) Where can I get another launcher that will not be cleaned up by her?

Well, why doesn't your wife play FF too? :D

I think there is a way to do it for only your account, but I'm not sure if its located in the installer.

I can't let her get addicted too. There is only enough time on the computer for one of us to our crack fix. Its either her or me.

Just move the icon from the all Users/Desktop to your own accounts/Desktop. It is simple. If you do not know where all Users/Desktop is, do a search having "search hidden files an folders" and "search system folders" enabled.

You can also just create a shortcut to Civ4BtS and open up its preferences. In the "Target" field just add:

mod=FallFurther050

to the end of the line

I'm not sure about the exact name at present (I'm at work) If you want to know for sure, go to your BtS Folder then open the mods folder, and look how Fall Further is exactly called there. Then put exaclty that behind "mod="

And *tingelingeling* you have your own shortcut to FF without disturbing your wifes Desktop.

I'd modified the Installer Script to create the icon on {userdesktop} rather than {commondesktop} now - so that shouldn't be an issue in the future. Only the main installer (not patch) creates an icon though, so the benefit won't be seen until 051. In the meantime, the suggestions made by others in this thread should do the trick (shortcut to BtS, with mod=\Fall Further 050 added to the end)

Thank you for the help, everyone. Works fine now.

Its amazing how you can go from being computer literate to having to ask for help with simple tasks after only 20 years of technological progress. I guess it is time I start paying attention to the way things work again.

=P it usually does take a while for the folks to iron out the wrinkles in the new versions.
The "old" FF 043 patch N or so was our favourite because it was pretty OOS-free.

Yeah, it's just case of a waiting really. Hopefully not too long. :P
