I am currently trying to mod Sid Meyer's Alpha Centuari. I've never done any real modding before, so I am a complete newb and know almost nothing. Everything I learned I've figured out through trial and error.
I've put in pictures of friends as the faction leaders, redesigned the balance system and gameplay to some extent, replaced all the in-game art with drawings by HR Giger, etc. I'm to the point now where I want to redesign a few other things: the sound and music, and the color scheme. The color scheme is probably just a few numbers somewhere which I might figure out through trial and error, but the sound is really causing me problems.
I want to replace some of the in-game ambient music with riffs from Portishead to give it a more ghostly feel. I think I've figured out the problem of how to correctly convert the files, but I am still having serious problems. Most of the in-game music is actually triggered by player events and constructed each time from recordings of individual notes that are stored in the /fx folder. The only real exception is some background noise and the opening menu music.
My question is this: has anybody tried to mod AC before, and if they have, could they help me out? Also, I'm hoping that there is a guide somewhere that can explain what all the fx files do and how it is possible to change the game to play individual sounds during player events, rather than mixtures. That way I could create a sound called "baseconquer" or something, and that sound would play when you conquer a base, rather than 10 individual notes playing together from the /fx folder.
I'd sure thank you if anybody can help me out.
