LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A small plane crashed into a lakeside picnic area crowded with families celebrating Independence Day near Los Angeles on Thursday, killing the pilot and co-pilot and a child and a baby on the ground, officials said.
The crash in San Dimas, California, about 35 miles east of Los Angeles just after midday (3 p.m. EDT) also injured more than a dozen other people at the popular recreation area.
The pilot of the twin-engine Cessna 310 reported being unable to climb just after takeoff from a nearby airport and apparently attempted an emergency landing.
