Can someone please explain to me why Civ V multiplayer sucks so hard? All I'm trying to do is play with my friend. Being that it's 2011, I believe this kind of achievement to be rather simple.

WRONG.
While Civ IV and a million other games before it is able to achieve this simple task, I get a "version mismatch" no matter how many different ways we try to connect.

He has a Mac, I have a PC.

Has anyone else experienced this issue and if so, have you figured out the fix? I'm so frustrated with how poorly Civ V is working and I'm really hoping that it gets fixed soon. PLEASE HELP!

The error message is telling you the exact reason.
The patch status is not the same for the Mac version like for the PC version.
Mac is on 1.0.0.62, PC is on 1.0.1.67 (or so).

Yes Aspyr has yet to catch up with Firaxis on the patch schedules, though they have released one patch, it was only good for a day, before Firaxis released the next patch. Being an MP player I too really hope that Firaxis and Aspyr can work better together to bring out patches at nearly the same time.

It's just ridiculous that they can't get their sh*t together so I can play with my friend b/c we're on different platforms. That's bush league and not at all indicative of an elite franchise like Civilization is supposed to be. I've played Civ since 1992 and I've come to expect a lot from this game. I'm on the verge of not playing this game for a while and I've never done that before.

Easy solution is tell your friend with the Mac to get a real computer. :)

J/K of course... it is pretty sad that this error happens at all, yes. I'm sure they will work on it in future patches. I think the best thing you can do is *walk away* for like 2-3 months and then come back.

And be glad you are just starting now.................... had you been playing back in November, you would have been really, really mad.

Steam does let you D/L the PC game for free, so you could use BootCamp to Boot Vista/7 and install the PC game for MP until the MAC version catches up.

Whereas that is a cool way around it, I'd have to say that does still kind of suck for the OP. But still, very insightful!

Yes, I shouldn't have to do that much work to enjoy a game online in the 21st Century. I can't believe that a new Civ came out and I don't play it. For the first time since 1992, I really don't care to play and a large part of it is the difficulty in playing a game online. I'm giving it a patch and/or expansion for them to get their sh*t together or they're going to lose a loyal customer.

Agreed....by the time MP is fixed we will have other new and better games out to play, and nobody will care anymore.
