So many choices

Norton, impressive win. 1574!!!! I salute you. Incredible. My earliest victory is still in the 1800's. What speed is this on?
Marathon. It seems easier to get earlier win dates on that speed than on normal, which I usually play on. I doubt I'll be duplicating this feat anytime soon, though, especially since I usually leave the barbs on and hardly ever generate a start like the one CivCorpse generated. Still, I think I'll be playing Rome on marathon a little more often. ;)

I always play normal speed so 1800-1900 are normal times for my wins. Marathon is taking up to much time :P And yes Civcorpse start almost feels like cheating ;)

Same here, or a even a little later (early 1900s for my last space race win). Marathon makes early win dates much easier to achieve, though this was probably an extreme case.

I am a Prince (and most often Epic speed) player, but this start was too good to pass up. Thanks for posting.
In the process of playing it out right now. Bee-line IW, make Pretorians and walk over the others (Korea, Carthage and now moving on India). It just begs warmongering.

try this one on for size. You actually start 1s of the corn. I sacraficed being able to work the corn to bring the 2nd gem tile into my fay cross. And you eliminate 3 useless seasquares. You can work that tile as soon as you can mine it without sacraficing growth as you would in the case of the gold tiles. I also popped Myst from a hut fairly early so I beelined for the wheel and masonry and with the stone had stonehenge up fairly quickly, chopped the pyramids and was running rep with a priest in every city. You won't miss farming the corn since you have 2 fish and some cows as well as some farmable rivers. With gold, gems and the elephants you can get a size 12 city early which lets you work all the bonus resources plus 2 priests and mine the last hill as well with a farm for more growth if you build the pyramids.
This is a monarch/standard/continents/marathon Warlords game with no barbarians. Barbs wouldn't be an issue anyway with industrious and stone. I had a relapse of wonder acciction in this game and neglected my military. Bad choice on Monarch especially with Mongols as neighbors. sorry for the spoiler but you meet them quickly so it won't affect much by knowing a head of time.
I was teching so fast I had was getting wonder techs like candy. With the city working all the bonus tiles plus the two priest under representation you can research ironworking in 22 turns on marathon with just your capital. And that is WITHOUT a library. You will need it for the jungles around you but you will notice that by settling on the corn you get a worker in only 24 turns instead of 30. that gets you the mine on the grassland gems six turns earlier. while the mine is being built get fishing as a tech then build 2 boats while you wait for the city to grow.
Below is the location to settle your second city to get irnon in your starting box.
Spoiler :
place your city 1n of the nw elephant

here is the save and a screen shot. Maybe not as great a start as the first one witht the romans and Julius w/prats is stronger than ramses any day.
Just beware of wonder addicition. With so much production it is easy to tell yourself you have plenty of time to crank out units.

ENJOY

What, no marble? :)

Considering the current record on the Hall of Fame is 1616, that's amazing, actually. You should start your own map and grab that spot, you are obviously capable.
