Okay, here's the situation. I finally bought a PC, after years of putting it off. I played Civ II while in college in '96 on a friends computer.
So what do I buy?? The original Civ II? And then patch the hell out of it. MGE? TOT? What are the pluses/minuses of each? Or can I download the entire game somewhere?

And what is the most painless way to get involved in MP? I have a fairly fast connection, so that's not much of a worry.

All help/opinions appreciated.

Well, I'd have to recommend MGE. It comes with all the TOT and Fantastic worlds scenarios loaded already, and as far as I know, has had a few bugs wiped out that were prevanlent in the Classic version.

Personally, I use Civ II Gold MGE, and download/apply patch 3 (March 1999)... the final version will be shown as 5.4.0f when you run the patched game.

You'll probably have to settle for whatever you can find.It is no longer readily available in any version.
Good Luck.

I've seen Civ II in KMart and Target for $10.

I think I might be able to get MGE from a friend. Can I download them somewhere? If they are not available, why are they advertised on the main page of your site??

Thanks for all the advice...

Civ II is in the standard software sub-$10 (e.g., $9.99) displays at most computer and discount stores. This is the CD-Only version. Civ II MGE (full & boxed) is more difficult to find since the small allotments are often sold out in metropolitan areas in the US, but it is easily bought for $14.99 on the internet.

ToT scenarios loaded already, how clairevoiyant. I think he means CiC scenarios. Anyway I suggest the fastest legal way to get your hands on it, you can always upgrade to a different version later.
