Hi.

I'm just looking on general help on choosing which difficulty to keep playing.

I'm not very good but I am a history buff so I love this game. So far I fit into two difficulties. Warlord or Noble. If I play Warlord I win 80% of the time, any victory but the technology race is close at the end.

In Noble I'm normally bottom of the pile or middle in score but I can keep my military up. However I fall behind in tech and I have not won in Noble. If I try to get tech then I suffer in military units and I get run over by elephants.

It seems my skill level is in between Warlord and Noble. Should I keep playing Warlord until I can win 100% of the games? I have a feeling I should keep trying Noble and loosing until I get better.

I play Alexander of the greeks. Any tips on keeping tech up? AI seems really good at coming back from behind. Libraries don't seem to cut it. I also try to specialize each city but in late game they all seem to blob together and produce gold/science/hammers anyway.

Thanks.

Try the thread entitled tech monsters (on this page) for information on how to improve tech at noble level

Yeah, I'd recommend sticking to Noble. The problem with winning on lower difficulty levels is that it could be teaching you bad habits. For example, you might rely on building a specific Wonder, or being first to a specific tech that you aren't able to do on the higher difficulty levels, which can ruin your strategy.

The other alternative is to play on Warlord, but try playing differently than you normal do. If, for example, you're normally a builder, try playing as a warmonger. Or vice versa. Try going for victory conditions you don't normally get to (Conquest, or Culture, etc). Also, try enforcing some personal playing conditions. Like try playing without building any Wonders. These can help you hilight your weak points, and give you some alternative strategies to play with.

It's pretty simple. Play on the level that allows you to have fun. if you are winning so much that your starting to get bored, go up a level. If your losing so much that your not having fun, go back down. whatever is challenging to you, whatever keeps you thinking "man, this is fun" stick with it.
