While im waiting for FIFA 12 and AC: revelations, i decided to get another go on Civ V, cause i got like 50 hours gametime only (mostly because of exams and job). Got a few questions (and maybe will add later to this topic some more)

Game setup: -what does "earth age" and "rain" for influence? I can imagine that with earth age the older earth is a bit rockier and more bald (correct me if am wrong),but since we already have "climate", i really dont see whats rain for.

- also, is it possible that the game can save a set-up. lets say i change some things in the advanced set up (like lower sea level or more city-states)

Profile: where do you change your name? cause seeing "player1) annoys me a bit.

Suleiman/bismarck achievement. you have to convert barbary camps/ships to you. how do you do this? Do you have to destroy them first? or just meet them on the map and then wait till the next turn to see if they join you?

thanks

World Age determines hills/mountains vs. flat terrain. The younger the world the more hills/mountains.
Temperature determines deserts vs. tundra.
Rain determines deserts vs. jungle.

Your basic options are saved. So if you select setup game, those main options are saved. None of the advanced options will be saved automatically. You can go into the XML files and change those in various ways if you prefer certain things to be on all the time.

The only way I know of is to go into the config.ini file and change your In-game Alias. You can find the file in Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civilization 5. Scroll down most of the way to the bottom and you'll find the lline to change.

You have to attack the unit and then there is a chance to convert them.

Profile: For Windows 7, go to the taskbar, click friends, click your profile picture, and change the name. I don't know how for any other OS.

Suleiman: Just move your ships next to them.

I think Ranos got them all right part from the last one. For the Germans you have to kill a unit inside a camp, for the Ottomans you have to move your ship next to the barb unit.

Ninja'd me!
This part is wrong.
You just have to move next to them.
Other than that, good advice.:goodjob:

Ah I didn't know that. Never played Suleiman.

So Bismark is attack the unit in a camp and defeat it. Suleiman is move your ship next to the barbarian ship.

thanks for the replies, it helps me a lot.

about that "player1", it mostly shows up when the game is processing the turns, when your mouse is over a tile, and it says "tile owned by player1". i wanna change that to my real name.

cause i remember in Civ 4, when you started a game, you could fill in your own name

EDIT: another question: for the 357 naval units for the elizabeth achievement, do embarked units count?

I just had a look.
In hotseat it'll say the name you've entered when clicking on 'edit', for instance 'tile owned by anandus', but in single player it doens't matter what name you give your leader through the 'edit-'button, it'll still say 'tile owned by player 1' apparently. Don't know if it's supposed to be like that or if it's an oversight.

thanks, guess i'll leave t.

do you know about the elizabeth achievement?

No, I don't, I'm sorry. But I assume embarked units aren't counted as 'naval units', although I'm not 100% sure.

yeah its what i think as well.

is the fountain of youth a scenario natural wonder? cause i have never found it, although i have found el dorado a few times

For the scenario's (i downloaded all dlc), does it matter which map type (archipelago, ring, etc...)you choose?
