*Curls into a ball in the corner*

Calm down boy... I know how u feel. *pat*

Daddy(Moo4) will be back soon...

Galactic Civilization is the game MOO3 should have been. Look it up and give it a try if you loved MOO2, simple awesome.

Galactic Civ 2 should be out in the new year, hopefully the extra eye candy doesn't sause the problems Civ 4 seems to be causing.

The developers (Stardock) also had a poll going to see if there was interest in a Master of Magic 2 as they where toying with the idea of obtaining the naming rights, will see if I can track it down.

Moo2 is still my favorite game of all time and I *STILL* have it installed.

MOO2 is my all time favorite too, although Civ4 comes pretty close :) . For me, MOO2 had all the best elements of Civ2, but without the tedius micromanagement. Having to terraform/improve dozens of tiles never really appealed to me. Also, I loved the strategic combat and the ability to customize your ships in MOO2.

I don't think MOO2 ever got the respect it deserved and that's probably why we never saw a real sequel. Most reviewers were giving it 7/10 or 8/10 at the time.

 In Civ 2 gaining tech on gaining a city was too easilly expoitable.

I once let the enemy take a bad town that I didn't want anyway just so I could gain a tech when recapturing it. I was way behind so I let then take it a dozen times.......

They have forced the player to choose between violence, science, productivity or culture. Obviously cash would be the obvious solution if spies could steal tech and bribe units and millitary would be the best solution if tech was passed over on capturing a city.

The one key skill to Civ 4 is assessing early on which victory is suitable and going for it wholeheartedly. I am always something like:

5% short on land area for domination
2% short on population for diplo
3 turns short for space victory
etc

Well, as I and other people have written in the other techsteal thread, the techsteal by conquest, if implemented, would have to be capped somehow. You would have to take over something important to get tech, not just some tiny, insignificant outpost town. Also, check out this mod.

Err, or not so much. GalCiv is a good game, but its nothing like MOO2. GalCiv also suffers from the tedium of large empire micro and alot of exploits vs. the AI. Its still a good game though.

Now, before you ask...
Reasons why GalCiv isn't MOO2.5
No ship design
No race selection (though there is customizability)
No tactical fleet combat
No 'Orion' ;)
and many other piddly differences in tech and colonization, ....

Still its not a bad game, just not a MOO game, other than the obvious 4x in space bit...

Agreed!!
My bad for saying it as 3x when it actually is 4x! LOL

4X:
eXplore
eXpand
eXploit
eXterminate

I played Galactic Civilization and while it was far better than MOO3, It just didn't do it for me though. It wasn't like Civ4 where even after a long game I want to play another one to try out a different strategy.

I loved Master of Magic, although the computer AI was terrible and only reason it had a chance at higher difficulty levels was how much it cheated. I really liked the way your main Wizard worked though and the different ways you could play it.

I thought Age of Wonders was ok, biggest problem I had it with it was I had reached a point where on one scenario I could not win no matter what I tried, so I got frustrated with it. I really liked the early Heroes of Might and Magic games, the later ones weren't near as fun though.

For Alpha Centari, I really enjoyed that game but the biggest problems I had with it were that no matter what you did you ended up with global warming by the end of the game which flooded half the map and also the endless attacks of the mindworms. You would see stacks of 20 or 30 of them attack your city.
