Something to avoid in Civ 3!!!!

Dan, what about beta test versions when and who will they be given to?

I'm sure this will be viewed as the "cop out" answer, but we haven't yet determined what approach we will take with a beta. A great deal of the strategy involved (believe it or not) involves the publisher, and since the whole Hasbro/Infogrames thing has happened, that's been relatively low on the priority list.

We *do* know how many of you out there are chomping at the bit, though, so if and when we need to get applications for beta testers, you guys will be among the first to know.

To Dan Magaha FIRAXIS,

Will people be able to turn off the animations if they have crappy computers? (myself not included)

True words *hehe* I concur your exellency

I agree, I would rather wait an extra six or even 12 months than to be so badly dissapointed. I will be absolutely, completely and utterly LOST beyond all control and repair if Civ III has something wrong with it! I don't even want to think about it...eeeegh *shivers up my spine*

Firaxis, please if you need more time, take it. I am sure that I am not speaking for myself when I say that we would rather wait a bit than have troubles after we've been hanging on the edge of our chairs all this time!

Sire, we are the most enlightened fanatic center in the world
lol.gif
...please listen to us.

We want a flaw free civ, if i have to wait past christmas..that's fine (i still have civ II) i don't want there to be numerous upgrades and add-ons.

Don't listen to them, Firaxis. A fourth quarter deadline gives you plenty of time to finish it and fix problems that show up with the playtest. To not release it by Christmas would be business suicide.

I know most of the fanatics in here are insisting on perfection the first time around, but that is simply impossible. There are going to be problems with the code no matter when you release it, so get it out the door in time to make a s***load of money and distribute fixes as is necessary after the release.

Here's a solution.....
Wait until NEXT christmas (2002). Then they have oodles of time to work out the bugs....and IN TIME for the christmas rush.

/scarcasm

I would like to see it by (this) christmas but SFC2 was rushed (for christmas) and even after 5 patches multiplayer is still unplayable. I just don't want this trouble.

Although a half-assed game by Firaxis would probably be better than a fully completed game by Taldren/Interplay.

BlueMonday, if you were next to me, I would...

*(*(SHAKE YOU)*)*

I couldn't dissagree more with everything you just said. If the game is ready, YES, bring it on...
If not, then please, no let us wait.

Patience is a virtue and it is better 'AND' quicker to do do something once properly than ten times over in haste.

Yes, we are planning to provide this option.

Everybody's talking and fighting about when to release it, and what does Dan Magaha do? Replying on a message from a day earlier and ignoring the others.

Is it really gonna matter much? I'm thinking their going to be about the same?

THe maps better be at least three times as big (or at least have the option). I don't rightly know who said it, but they commented on how cities size, compare to map size on the world maps, are way off. (was it you who said that Mrlyn?)

Supposably everything is going to be bigger, better, more realistic. When I first saw those animated units I thought about plastic, but firaxis is improving them gradualy and we can SEE the improvement (and I like it

) I think Firaxis listens VERY well to it's fans very well which will almost certainly guarantee that Civ3 will be a blast. (Though some people are never happy

I mean I'm back in graduate school full-time and if this game is released just before finals I'm going to have some serious problems
