First (absolutely first) information about my newest scenario is released:

"Sons of Heracles"

I am already v e r y far with it ("rough" work, i.e. rules, scenario itself etc.) is completed, I now only have to do cosmetic work (i.e. graphics, text files like Game.txt etc.)

What is it about?

The rise of Sparta from 735 to 490 BC. The player will be engaged in the bloody Messenian Wars and will have to use clever diplomacy to establish something in shape of a "Pelopponesian League".

Among the new ideas: Spartan Hoplites and Phanangoi will have "settler" abilities, the player may choose himself wether he wants to use them. The idea is that these units cost food, and this represents the poor population of Sparta and the need for every single man (plus those units will be very expensive, so the player must think twice wether he really wants to waste them into a city: A single Phalanx costs 160 shields!).

There will be a tech tree for the player to research, but this will all be very hard because city and terrain production is verrrrry low. Trade is very rare, thus the player will be forced to decide for ONE path only ("Do I want Hoplites or Helots...?").

Status Quo is that there is not yet so very much else new stuff except for that what I have described above, but Expect this one to be original!

Anything else you want to know?

And what about opponents? Apart of Messenians and Spartans - and the great "Athenai", i suppose - are you going to include Argo, Corinth and Arcadia as single opponents or as a League?

How stupid, it's the first choice, right?

Argos, Athenai, Korinthos, Messene and Arcadia will all be independent, then there is a tribe of the North Western Greeks. The Dorians are represented by the Barbarians.

Any chance we can get a screenshot...

By the way how long is the scenario?

With you and Prometeus coming out with both of these new scenarios, it's got me just anxious thinking about them. Such good ideas.

I can already see that 2001 is going to be the year for Civ!

I sure hope so!

The scenario runs from 735 to 490 BC, each turn is a year.

There are no screenshots as of yet, because I'm using assembled graphics right now, I will have to make new ones. Making the game was more important to me, but I will start with the graphics this weekend.

BTW, I even joined a Sparta-related Mailing List for research!

Believe it or not, this project was actually inspired by school! (And I even learned some stuff about Sparta there I'm using

)

I'll see that I can do as many units as possible by myself, but if I need help... thanks

I found out an aristocratic warrior pic somewhere on the net... once I'll find where i've put it in my huge archive, I'll post it to you.

PS you'll receive more infos for "..." this weekend.

Stefan, will the other powers be playable?

Prom: That'd be cool

Alci: Well, not really, but if you really don't want to play Sparta you can try yourself at Athens, Argos or Corinth. The bad thing is that Sparta will mess up everything and propably won't even conquer Amyklai. You will have to think of it as something like "What if... Sparta had never been succesful".

Hey, I'm now signing up playtesters! Two people are wanted here! Go for it quickly!

Not a problem,then. I will just be a Sparten !
