heya, just been reading through this section for the last few weeks and finally decided to go for a game... rather than download mapassist or whatever it is, i decided i would just use someone elses save to see if i could get anywhere near them.

I took A Space Oddity's:

Tiny, Aztec, Conquest game.

she finished in 2900BC with 4972 points if i remember rightly.

Now after pressing f8 (rules says its ok im sure) finding i had two nmys.

build one jag and head off in one direction, build another jag and send him in another.

one finds a capital with no defence! the reds die v.soon.
other finds blues with atleast a warrior, charges regardless, and wins! game over.

Now is it cheating to use someone elses game start? well if so, it doesnt matter, il just treat this as practice.. but i won in 3200BC with 5217 points.

slap me down with somethin ive missed cos im a noob

boo hiss etc. lol

So how do i got about setting a game up correctly that would be viable?

sorry ASO!

anyway, while i realise it is daft being able to hijack someone elses game and try to better it yourself...I am going to start making my own games now!

can you please point where in the rules it actually states that?

It could probably do with being clarified, but it's sort of covered by:
Reloading - Reloading a save to try and change game events is not allowed. You may reload if the game crashes, you have started a new playsession, or to avoid Domination victory.

aha, because i guess you could always look at the finish file aswell, make your plan perfect!

anyway, ive used the mapmaker... but in the end ive realised its irrelevant. The quickest way is to produce 2 jags, send them off in different directions and hope they hit the enemy quick... what resources give the highest production bonus without any modifcations?
cows are good, but they are only mined by the time the second jag is being made....

On tiny on lower difficulties, especially on PTW, you better use the worker to build a city size 2 at 4000BC, and utilize 2 forest tiles(or plains cattle) to reach 5 production a turn from the first turn, and go for JAGS, ofcourse.

@slozenger: You can't Reload or Replay games (Yours or someone else's), if you want to submit them to the HOF.

However, you have re-raised an interesting topic. That of replaying a game
to see if the Score/End-Date can be improved upon. It would be interesting, IMO, to have an All-Bets-Off "HOF" (Totally SEPARATE, Of Course!), where anything goes.....No Rules, Just Right! (Just "Firaxis Rules"!)

For example, no matter how many times you replay, say, Moonsinger's #1 Milked Sid Level HOF game by Reloading/Replaying, will you EVER Beat her Score?! (Not as easy as it sounds!) :)

What if one person posts a starting save before playing it? Could multiple people each attempt a HOF game from this initial starting point? This wouldn't seem any different than multiple people all using the same nationalities and seed value to start a game.

This could introduce some direct competition between the different players.

A side note: if 2 players each generated an identical save from a seed value would the RNG seed start at the same value for each player as well?

Nope. Dianthus was correct in pointing out this would be a violation of the reload rule. It would also be a violation of the random generation rule.

Sounds a lot like what GOTM already is.
