ok, here's what i've found out. I have a ASUS P4P800 mainboard with a Soundmax onboard. i can start untill the audio initialising, then it just crashes..i disinstalled the soundmax drivers, installed just standard intel drivers(card doesnt work with it, but ok) and i can go on loading the game..without sound though. then when i get to the XML i get these error messages everyone is complaining about. I have a Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB, P4P800 hyperthreading 1024MB at 333Mhz, 2,4Gig Intel P4..so i guess it's not only 1 problem, there are many problems with this piece of software. I wonder, if i buy a product in the supermarket, or a car, or anything else, and it's not working properly, i go to court, if needed, and get my money back. but on software they dont do it. they produce something that's not working, and then WE, the people, have to live with it. of course im sure they will patch it, but when? next month, maybe at christmas? that isnt a gift though if we pay for it! I think Firaxis has not done the testing right, of course you can't test for every single hardware configuration in the world, but it seems like this is not a single case of a few strange hardware configurartions, it seems like a spread out failure of hardware recognition. and firaxes should be ashamed of themself letting such software out of the house, take the money from the people, where they should well know the software the've produced is not ready yet.
