I know I'm starting up a lot of topics around here in a short time frame: so sue me!

Anyways, wanted to start a thread about Sound Effects or Clips that could be used in the game. Since it seems the Music clips will all be movie-related, I think it would be great to get in good movie speech clips and sound effects for the mod ;)

Here's a list of some I've found from a very awesome LOTR sound clip site:

The One Ring: Incantation in the Black Speech: http://www.audiblebeauty.net/do-not-link/fellowship/Gandalf_ringpoem.wav
"One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the Darkness bind them." - Gandalf

This sound clip is soooo awesome! It so needs to be in the mod! Anyways, I was thinking it'd be good for either the sound clip that comes after you've created the One Ring wonder, or the sound clip that occurs if you found the "Worship the Darkness" religion.

There is also a great "Build me an army worthy of Mordor" line spoken by Sauron to Saruman in the FOTR film that could also make a great clip that could be used with the "Worship the Darkness" religion. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find one online :(

Nazgul Screams:
http://www.audiblebeauty.net/do-not-link/fellowship/nazgulbree.wav
http://www.audiblebeauty.net/do-not-link/towers/nazgul-osgiliath.wav
http://www.audiblebeauty.net/do-not-link/king/nazgulscreamlong.wav (this one would need to cut out Frodo's lines of course)

Can never have too many Ringwraith cries! :D

Fellbeast: http://www.audiblebeauty.net/do-not-link/towers/fellbeast.wav

Fellbeast sound to go along with a mounted wraith. Of course, you might also be thinking of having the Fell Beast as a sort of "Third Age flying Dragons" (even if they aren't dragons) for the Shadow civ ;)

Balrog Roar: http://www.audiblebeauty.net/do-not-link/fellowship/balrog.wav

Yeah, ok, it's kind of a weak roar. Then again, it didn't have much of one in the movie at all. The clip should be useful for the Balrog unit all the same.

Horn of the Haradrim: http://www.audiblebeauty.net/do-not-link/king/hardhrim_horn.wav

Man I love the sound of that horn! This clip could be used if the Haradrim are going to war against another civilization maybe?

Horn of Gondor: http://www.audiblebeauty.net/do-not-link/fellowship/horngondor.wav

Another awesome horn, specifically Boromir's! Could be used for the same thing as the Haradrim horn, only this one would be for the Gondor civ.

Horn of Rohan: http://www.audiblebeauty.net/do-not-link/king/rohan_horn.wav

More horns! Probably good for the Rohan "going to war" clip. Only problem is that its kinda long. Perhaps the clip could be cut some?

Lothlorien Horn: http://www.audiblebeauty.net/do-not-link/towers/eldarhorn.wav

Self-explanatory at this point huh? Not sure what you're considering as a civilization that would contain the Lothlorien (Elven civs seem to change quite a bit in this mod!).

Well, that's all for now. All these clips are coming from the same site (http://www.audiblebeauty.net/). I do know of a few other sound clip sites, but they simply are not of this site's good quality or vast quantity of movie quotes/sounds.

perfect:goodjob:, though i don't know if different civs can have different war sounds...

and i don't complain about the new topics... they give life to the mod.

there's quite a few that i saw after a quick look through that will work for tech quotes, too.

thanks alot

i don't suppose you know how to mod?

Great, it's great for tech quotes and diplo sounds. Maybe the horns could be used when you start negotiations with those civs. But I don't think all the music will be movie-based, thought most of it will. Do anyone know how to take out lyrics of songs?
One great speech is also Blind Guardian's War of Wrath... perhaps it could be used as a intro for the mod, instead of the "dawn of men".

I wish I knew. Any good tutorials on XML or Python you all know of?

On CivFanatics I found some good XML tutorials, and I started to mod following them (thought I already knew HTML, and it helped). There's no secret in editing XMLs, other than wits to know what a certain tag does, and experience.
All you need to know is that the words inside brakets are called tags, and they say what the text or number inside them (<tag>this way; the / indicates a ending tag</tag>) means. <tag/> is a tag with no content, tags that start with b (like <bTag>) are yes (1) or no (0) tags, and the ones that start with i are numeric ones. Read a tutorial just to get familiar with the modding, and them keep trying! It's awesomely easy.

You know how the beginning of a new game of Civilizations theres that whole "Introduction" with the guy telling you about how the Earth evolved? Well I think this mod should have something like it.

What would be more appropriate then J.R.R. Tolkien himself reciting one of his poems? ;)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7zX9kyXRJ4

Why is "The Hoard" (a poem in the "Adventures of Tom Bombadil") appropriate? It outlines the creation of Arda, the birth of Elves and Dwarves, and the coming evil.

If there was someone that could make a sound clip out of the first 16 lines of the poem that Tolkien reads, then I think we got something real good here! :goodjob:

So, good intro clip or not? The other parts of the poem talk about a Dwarf, Dragon, King, and a hoard of treasure, so I don't think they're that appropriate.

'When the moon was new and the sun young
of silver and gold the gods sung:
in the green grass they silver spilled,
and the white waters they with gold filled.
Ere the pit was dug or Hell yawned,
ere dwarf was bred or dragon spawned,
there were Elves of old, and strong spells
under green hills in hollow dells
they sang as they wrought many fair things,
and the bright crowns of the Elf-kings.
But their doom fell, and their song waned,
by iron hewn and by steel chained.
Greed that sang not, nor with mouth smiled,
in dark holes their wealth piled,
graven silver and carven gold:
over Elvenhome the shadow rolled.'
