Treasure Fleets

I haven’t built any Fleet Commanders yet, but I know that Army Commanders do get bonus movement if they’re carrying troops, so I assume Fleet Commanders do too.
But the movement increased from 4 to 6 for a few turns then dropped back to 4 while still packed.

I've stopped trying to complete the Economic Legacy Path in the Exploration Age. Even if I rush Shipbuilding, the AI in the Distant Lands have settled most spots with treasure resources and the Treasure Fleets are so slow, I just kinda don't bother. I still try and settle 2 or 3 towns in the Distant Lands. I know I could be more aggressive, but I'm a peaceful player at heart and just want to chill. Getting Relics and Tile Yields are much, much easier to just chill and do. Treasure Fleets are so map dependant that I'm just now avoiding it. Same as Relics in Modern, much, much easier to just chill with Railroads and Flight, let them tick up instead of running around with Explorers. Only the Ancient Age is somewhat a rush to build the wonders, settle out, get the resources, earn money to make cities to house relics, and defend or attack.

I'll grant you the thing with relics in modern, but treasure fleets aren't that hard? Current game I'm sitting at 7 resources completely peacefully, and two more coming once I integrate a city state, and this game feels in no way special.

For reference, 7 resources would allow you to complete the entire legacy path in ~34 turns.

It's map dependant, my latest game, standard size continents plus map, I've got 4 treasure resources, and one takes so long to send just one that it will barely matter. Both Culture and Science are already completed. I've had games where I finish it for sure, but again, map dependant. If you find 3 little islands in-between with 3 resources each, easy win, if you don't, you have to make it to Distant Lands in time, and it's RNG. Maybe I need to be more proactive in exploring, but I feel like I do it as soon as I can, I send out settlers and scouts, and it's RNG. Which is fine, as I have games where the RNG falls for me. In my last few games, it's just been miserable trying to get these resources first and then sending them home. AI won't open their borders, got to go the extra slow-assed long way, the City States haven't had any in their borders, etc. I'm not saying they are hard, just annoying if the RNG doesn't swing for you.

That doesn't matter at all. You can send one treasure fleet every 8 turns, and whether it takes 3 turns or 15 turns for it to arrive in the homelands, on the long term you get 1 point per 8 turns per resource.

My last game, I had 5 treasure fleets hot footing it home when the age ended. How long it takes does matter if the age is over. I'm just saying I am over it, compared to how non-rng the others legacy paths are in Exploration. My next game might well have plentiful and easily reached treasure resources, I've had games like that, as I keep saying - RNG based.

The problem with treasure fleets is that they’re managed by the player manually. It’s a lot of work that doesn’t stop when the player hits 30 collected treasure resources.

Are you complaining about the free gold?

Treasure resources effectively generate 12.5 gold per turn, in exchange for the treasure fleets having to be sent home. That's significantly better than other resource yields.

Am I not getting treasure fleets because my capital is not on the coast? I have fishing quay in the capital and my other settlements.

No, that's not it. Treasure fleets are generated when you have: 1) a settlement in Distant Lands (islands or landmass) that is on the coast 2) that settlement has treasure resources in its area that have been improved 3) the settlement has a Fishing Quay or other water building for the ships to spawn. Once the Treasure Fleet is formed, it can sail back into your territory to unload. It doesn't have to reach your capital in the Homelands; your capital doesn't have to be coastal.

1.the settlement on the distant lands doesn't have to be on the coast. It can be inland, but it needs to have a fishing quay on a coastal tile OR navigable river that has ocean access. 2. True 3. Research Shipbuilding.

Here is my settlement across the deep ocean from my homeland. Resource is improved and has fishing quay. Only thought is this isn't considered distant lands.

That looks alright to me. Do you have Shipbuilding?

(by the way, for the future, just screenshot the entire game window - there can often be information in the UI that may help answer questions, e.g. your current research or the minimap)

Try mousing over the resource (spices?) to be sure that it shows as a treasure resource. The fleets do take some number of turns (8, I think) to spawn.

Thanks... have shipbuilding 2... got a treasure fleet by capturing one in war.
Also note that only certain resources generate treasure fleets. You can tell by mousing over them. I don't think spices is one of them? Can't remember. Gold definitely is.

Spices, tea, cocoa, sugar, gold and silver are treasure fleet resources.

Note that gold and silver also exist in the homelands, where they don't count as treasure fleet resources.

Was this fixed? In my first game (with just the day zero patch), I had a city with gold on my homeland. It was creating treasure fleets. I distinctly recall this because the fleet would appear next to my city, and I'd immediately click the deliver button for a point.

I haven't had this happen even though I've got silver in a coastal city in my current game, so I'm going to assume yes.
