Anyone know if this is true? I build the SoZ using Ivory that I traded for. After it is build, I got two ancient Cavalry, but realize that it did not generate the third Cavalry as I expected it to. Metallury is not discovered yet. So, that leaves me to suspect that it is becuase I did not have ivory now since I did not renew the ivory trade deal.

Anyone has any idea or can confirm my suspicion?

I have not experienced it, but do remember reading someone else with that same situation, and it does appear to be true, I would guess that the AC requires Ivory as well as the wonder.

Yes - ivory is requirement for ancient cavalry production. You need ivory for both: (1) starting the SoZ build, and (2) continuing production of ACs. If you can't strike a new trade for ivory, at least you've denied the SoZ build for the ivory owner!

Okay thanks. Did not know that. Should have renew the ivory trade then, since I was just holding tech being unwilling to give them a tech for just ivory.

I used to play a game in which i was selling ivory to Egypt for gpt, and then i was building SoZ and suddenly, the Egypt has got SoZ cause some other civ has built ToA. Good to know that he can't build any Ancient Cal against me

well that should be a leason learned for you :D

NEVER TRADE IVORY until you've built SoZ

oh and yes I've also experienced that if you lose your ivory then your won't get anymore AC :(

me think this should be a bug though...
afterall, why do you need ivory to produce a unit with??? i know the SoZ is made of ivory and hence the need of ivory, but why ancient cavalry???

Use the A. Cavalry to take the ivory. Come on, it'll be funny.

smphang: It might be an unintentional bug, but it might also be a feature - a neat one for those who did not get the SoZ: Get their ivory and laugh at Zeus! :)

a4phantom has the right idea... let the AC take the ivory back! They really should do that, as they are to stupid to reproduce themselves without ivory.... *cough*

:rotfl:

Use AC to secure source of Ivory (or should that be irony :))

I have another question: Is Ivory needed to start building SoZ, or you have to keep it while building?
My question in another way: If a civ has Ivory (and only that civ) and starts to build the SoZ but not in the city that has the Ivory in its city radius AND I conquer the city with Ivory, can that civ continue building the SoZ?

Excellent question. That I don't know.

Germans attacked me the other day. They had the SoZ. They declared war. I sailed over to their island, dropped off a pikeman, and pillaged their ivory. Next turn: peace.

This should be easy to test... scenario, with road connection to single ivory, and make sure your civ starts with mathematics. then after a few turns of buidling SOZ, just raze the road.... ;)
Now i done the "hardwork"....
/me lookding at tofe99 :D

THX for the "hardwork". Unfortunately it is not about it, but the fact that I get my computer back in a few days. I had some problems with it.

So feel free to test it on yor own as well...

I'll probably test it around Tuesday.

Using smphang's hardwork I tested it.
So you need to have ivory to START building SoZ, and then to produce the Ancient Cavalry. In between you do not have to have it.
If you do not have ivory after completing SoZ, and you still do not have ivory after 5-6-7 etc. turns, then AS SOON AS you have it you get the first AC, and the five turns (between the 2 ACs) is being counted from the production of the first AC.
Hope that it was clear...

Would you be kind enough to test one more thing which might be a bug/exploit. Cancel the ivory and on same turn and trade again. Would that give you another AC again even when you already got your AC in the last 4 turns?

There is no bug.
It starts to count the five turns from completing SoZ, but it gives you the AC if you IN THAT TURN have the ivory, or in the closest turn you have it.
