Space elevator

Even though the space elevator is a world wonder, and not a national wonder, I couldn't build it in just any city. I had to build it in a provincial backwater of a town for some reason.

Does anyone else have this problem? Is there some building you need the pedia doesn't tell you about?

I had this problem too. Out of interest, was it only the town closest to the equator that could build it? IRL, they'd build an elevator on the equator to get the most out of the spin of the planet.

In "real life" science fiction, the land site must be on the equator as space eleveator is anchored to a rock in geosynchronous orbit. The rock must orbit over the equator (just like sattelite tv thats why they are in teh south) other wise it would swing north and sourth when in orbit.

I lucked out. I was Russia and spawned in such a way that i was able to build it in Moscow.

Actually, yes, it was. It would have been nice if that was either in the mouseover or in the civopedia... oh well.
