Hello all out there!!
I just finished a large terra map game in noble as Greeks.
I started the game without a clue as to what victory conditions i should persue. In the end it became evident that allthough I had built the UN I could not get a diplomatic victory since my relations with some of the civs with the most votes next to me was at least problematic. I saw the first messages appearing that Mansa Musa was going after a space race victory (he had completed Apollo Program) when I was in the middle of it. I concetrated my efforts and after a literraly epic race I saw the message "Mansa Musa has achieved a space race victory" at the very same turn that I had finished SS Stasis Chamber and a pop up appeared that "Demetrius has achieved a space race victory" followed by the video of my spaceship reaching Alpha Centauri!!!
I can't seem to remember how I can take a screenshot but if someone could inform me I will provied a screenshot.
The game has recorded my game as a victory. And by pure curiosity I loaded up the last auto save repleying the hole thing. The messages appeared simoultaneously again and the game was again recorded as Victory with a little difference in scores. Well that's wired as I had done nothing different in the last four turns.
I will post a screenshot of the hall of fame screen also if someone tell me how.
Anyway I thought I should mention this incident as I think it should be a little rare for Two Civs to end the game at the very same turn after 18 or so hours of play!!

I have had the same happen, only it was me who got the message first. Popup declared my victory, movie played, and when it returned to the main window the message appeared "xy has achieved a space race victory!" (can't recall which civ it was).

Another odd thing I've seen was a situation where I had a defensive pact with Saladin, and he won the space race (I was FAR leading in score but failed to build apollo program in time). However, in the hall of fame it lists this as a space race victory for me (instead of "none" in the victory column). So, does a def pact count for a shared victory too, instead of only a full alliance?

No this is simply a bug in the program. Well not so much a bug but something that got left off. The victory column tells what type of victory was achieved in the game. However, no where does it say if you or AI or another human, etc won the game.

I had something similar happen, but not with space race, I think it was a simple time victory (my first Civ4 game). It claimed I lost, but put me down as the victor in the Hall of Fame. I counted it as a loss, as it would've been a time victory (wimpy way to win).

Nah - the SS is a 'Team Project', so you win together within your (Permanent) alliance.

rube203 is correct - the previous poster said he had a defensive pact not an alliance with Saladin. The HoF doesn't record whether you won or lost, although comparing the game score and modified scores will tell you.

The HOF has "Victory Type" and will list vicory types or *NONE* ... *NONE* being: YOU DIDN'T WIN.

As for the space race victory, yes, I've had that simultaneous win as well ... I was devastated, but got the victory handed to me.
