Me and my wife have been playing this game for a few months now....I am still a noob :(

Whats the best way to win a space race victory..i mean...How do u build the space ships parts and manage to get ur forces built at the same time...

Am at war with 3 other AI players all bribed by my wife  ..the situation is i am playing as India..allready destroyed the English ,am at war with babylon ,france and Scandanavia which are in my side of the continent....I generally have control of most of the resources except Uranium and Aluminium...I have 15 cities...the other three have around 15 each..except for babylon whom i have been killing....Am playing at Monarch difficulty
My wife is in other continent at war with evryone...and killing evryone too..I believe she is ahead in the space race

IF she wins the game i will have to do the house hold chores for a full week
:(

help me out a bit here...any tit bits of info can help...

Get uranium.

;)

Not the most helpful, sweetchuck :p

actually, only one spaceship part requires uranium. I think almost all require aluminum. Obviously both are still essential.

My $0.02...

#1: Aquire the resources. #2: If you have the money, plant a spy in your rival civs (or walk up behind your wife and look over her shoulder :goodjob:) and you can view their progress.

I personally like to research computers, rocketry, ecology/synth fibers first upon entering the modern era to get mech inf/modern armor, followed by space flight so I can start on apollo prgm while and start researching, stealing, or buying the other needed techs. If your neighboring civs have the needed techs, by all means build lots of modern armor and go a'conquering. Bully them out of their techs; dollar for dollar its normally the most economical way of advancing. Nukes, battleships, and the palace make good pre-builds for spaceship parts... ie, start them building, then switch production once the spaceship part becomes available. You can trim down priceless build time that way. Some of the spaceship parts are more "expensive" to build than others (casing... thrusters), and you should try and build those in your best-production cities and pre-build those with the palace when possible.

Also, if you think it'll buy you some time, you can always drop some ICBMs on your wife :mischief: Of course if you don't have or can't possibly aquire the resources by trade/conquer, you're generally screwed. :dunno:

yep...illtry boththe spy options(including the one sneaking behind my wife)..

If i drop an icbm on her...She will nuke me in real life :(

I was actually half serious about the uranium thing.

Building the ship is sort of cook-book. B-line those techs, don't research the ones you don't need, like capn said - get the resources. War if you must.

Uranium is always the one that's tricky. Trade for it if you have to, time it so when that part is needed right when you're ready to build it.

I did that once, kept uranium for a couple turns to build some ICBM's and the parts I needed for the space race, then DOW'd the civ that I was trading it with.

I believe it is actually Aluminium and Uranium that you need as resources for the Space Ship parts and no others. So, yeah, you'll need to get those.

For Aluminium it would be best to have your own source as almost all of the parts require it. Conquering one would really help. But watch out, Aluminium has also fairly high chances of depletion and it is maybe a good idea, if you manage to lay hands on your own source, to hook it up (IOW connect it to the rest of your trade network) only when you really need to. Means, use a military unit (any suffices) and a bunch of workers (3 for a hill, 4.5 for a mountain) for the task of pillaging/rebuiling the roads on it. Build the roads only if you actually want to issue build orders/swap prebuilds for some parts. Otherwise leave it unconncted. Resources can only deplete during the interturn and only if the resource is hooked up.

For Uranium it is somewhat easier. In Vanilla at least (C3 without any expansions) you only need it for one SS-part. Which means that you'll only need to get a lick of this resource at just that moment when you issue build orders for or swap your prebuild to this SS-part. And no more. So, signing peace with one of the other civs on your continent and trading for it is a very good option here, even if your wife should re-ally that civ against you on the next turn again. You'd just have to figure out which civ would have some spare source of it, (if at all :().

And yeah, as CapnvonBaron said, prebuilding is very important when you want to build the Space Ship as fast as possible. There are only a few parts which are really pricey. Those are the ones for 640 shields. One of them definitely comes with Synth Fibres, the other one (IIRC there are only two) I cannot remember fully, but I think it comes with either Space Flight, Satellites, or Superconductor. Devote one or two really productive cities (60 shields per turn or more) to these parts. And you'll need a really good prebuild item for them. (Great Wonders and maybe the Palace?)

Then there are a few parts that cost 320 shields each. You can easily use medium productive cities for those, and there should easily be plenty of prebuild items available. Wonders great and small, and expensive city improvements such as Solar Plants should do the trick.

And lastly there are the cheap parts which come at a mere 160 shield. You can build those almost anywhere, and even improvements such as Police Stations, or Banks should work fine as prebuilds.

(But watch out, if you use city improvements as prebuilds that you don't get any tainted shields into the box. Tainted shields are shield that come from cash/pop rushing, forest chopping, or units disbands.)

But by and large you can get by easily with only 3 or 4 cities building SS-parts and have the thing ready when the last tech comes in.

Easiest of all, win those wars, surely there is some Uranium and Aluminum on your side of the world. Do a clean map search for those resources (Ctrl, shift, M) and target those resources to be captured. She apparently has her wars handled well, and thats why she has you on the defensive. Will she nuke you? ICBMs and tactical nukes make great pre-builds and are excellent deterrent to first strikes, if the enemy knows you will respond. Alls fair in love and war, and if she nukes you first, she can hardly blame you for responding in kind. If you need money for planting spies, don't be afraid to go to 0% tech for a turn here and there. If you can get peace with an enemy even for a turn or two, trade gold per turn for stuff from them, and when your wife gets them back to war with you, you no longer have to pay. Its only an exploit if you are the one declarng war..

Maan..illtry those out...tell ya ..if it helps me.......Everyone has been soo helpfull.....

Anything to avoids that 1 week household chores....

she normally plays at monarch level while i am a monarch entry ..oh wellll...anyone had their girlfrnds/ wife beat u before in civ 3 :(

Hope i am not the first.......

Those tips made me feel that i have got a big chance....We have no nuke each other policy here...soo.if u nuke her..then...GULP

You do need rubber for the spaceship in Conquests, as well as uranium and aluminum.

All spaceship parts require Aluminum except for SS Fuel Cells, which require Uranium. Exterior Casing requires both Aluminum and Rubber
Technology Allows
Space Flight Cockpit, Docking Bar, Engine
Synthetic Fiber Exterior Casing, Storage
Superconductor Fuel Cells, Life Support
The Laser Planetary Party Lounge
The Satellite Thrusters
Robotics Stasis Chamber needs uranium too.

Rocketry Aluminum (Strategic Resource)
Fission Uranium (Strategic Resource)
Replacement Parts Rubber (Strategic Resource)

Total: 9 Techs 10 Components & 3 Strategic Resources

Most of us have partners/spouses/parents that despise civ3, so you are a lucky guy in that respect. Just gotta be able to not get beat all the time by her. The nuke question.....never nuke first is always good policy.

I WON I WON I WON :goodjob: :clap::worship::bowdown::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::dance::dance::beer:

Thanx a ton to yu guyz....the game was really kool...she gave me a surprise in the end ..

I did an Amphibious assault on France..taking their uranium for a small amt of time..allowed mt to start building few ICBm,s and a space ship part...and traded aluminium with aciv accross the continent..

I also provided my wife,s enemies a few tech relativly cheap..which made her life little bit harder..

I did a spy through her villages and founf that she was 7 turns away frm winning while iwas just 4 turns( i did a few pop rush on expensive building then switched ito to a spaceship part)

With just 2 turns to go she gave me a big surprise by landing 30 units right near my capital (was a coastal town) ...
Somhow managed to win the battle by bringing most of my units to capital and attacking her super stack. Should hve seen that attack comming though..

She promised to beat me on our next game..neverthe less she was impressed....i felt pity and promissed to help her in the household chores :)

Psst, rebel kid, come over here.

Don't tell her about this web site. Keep it your secret.

Now, go read stuff in the War Academy and clean her clock next time!

:D
