If I change "Americans" to "United States" in bth the city.txt and rules.txt files, will that make the spaceship acronym U.S.S. instead of A.S.S.?

For a regular game, yes. If it's a scenario, probably not. IIRC, the change in rules.txt will suffice.

I'm going on memory. If this doesn't work, let me know. I can check out the details on another PC.

Thanks.

I installed it on a second PC-I have the "real" PC that I use to play Civ II, and I have a second PC where I experiment with the game settings--I use the second one so I don't screw up the "real" copy and have to re-install.

Unfortunately I couldn't get my test to work. I started the game on the "test" PC, used cheat mode to get all the techs and make Washington a big city, and built the Apollo Program. But for some reason it wouldn't give me any SS parts as an option for what to build, so I couldn't see if I had "U.S.S. Matt".

But that's an easy setting to change back so I might just try it on the real PC.

It looks like the cheat mode did you in. There is a limiting factor in the game...it will not allow you to build SS parts before AD 1.

I didn't that was possible. Well, I was gonna throw in that maybe he didn't give himself the technologies needed to build the spaceship pieces.

Yes, changing the name of the civilization will change the letters is shows for it on the spaceship summary screen. You only need to change it in the rules.txt file for it to affect the spaceship letters. The change to the city.txt file is only needed for the auto city naming aspect to work.
