Spaceship in Capital?

I'm playing a game where it looks like the victory options still in play are highest score at the end or spaceship. I've got the highest score, but am behind on the spaceship.

Is the spaceship still built in the capital city. So, if I capture/destroy the capital of a rival, I also destroy their lead in the space race?

Thanks!

i'm not sure but i think the ss parts only are desroyed if the civ ie taken out the game, you can also stop production with a spy.

once a spaceship component is finished, it is launched and is safely out of your reach. Taking the capitol will do nothing for those components already built... but a war will likely disrupt the AI's future production of spaceship components as it starts building units to defend itself.

@Sand - sabotaging spaceship production once a part is well on its way is horribly expensive and may well not succeed.
@DarkFyre - I have known an AI civ, under heavy attack and down to its last city, start to build its first spaceship component in that city. Not very clever of it.

got to love chieftan dont you :)

Enjoy you're free powersupply for the spaceship stupid AI :nuke: :scan: :nuke:

It'd be quite cool if you could use ICBMs to shoot down spaceship parts if they're so 'safely' sent up into space. ICBMs go into space, last I remember. Would add a whole new twist to the space race.

Sabotaging the aluminum is cheap, and I think most parts have a bonus with it, so that slows them down.

If you have a spy you can use it to find what city is building the components and destroy or take that city that will force the AI to start over again in a new city. If you don't have a spy razing their aluminum supply will slow them down.

Too bad that aiming in the exo-sphere is prohibited, but you can aim for the city making the engine. The AI won't switch production if it has already invested hammers. last time I checked, people don't like working in fallout;)

That might not be the best idea. I was trying to stop Washington from builidng a SS once. I sent all my four spies into his territory checked out the cities to see what he was buliding and how many turns wer eleft to completion. Then I started sabotaging his alumimium sources, of which there were quite a few, three or four, I think... And what do you know, the contruction times (for the parts I KNEW had a 50% aluminium bonus) did not change one bit. He probably started importing aluminium from other civs once i took his supply out, and that I could do nothing about (since everybody hated me by that point in the game).

I guess that your spies would be better utilised destroying the "hammer" improvements arounf the city (worskhops/mines etc). (Those also have the additional benefits of not being protected by units usually...)

If you want to win the space race build a lot of spies. But don't use them to sabotaje cheap spaceship parts Sabotage something realy expensive like engine or stazis chamber.
If he have a lot of aluminium mine would be realy dificult and expensive to sabotage all of them and the next turn find out his workers build it again. You need to sabotage sorownding improovments too, even the farms if he is using specialists for building.ţ
Spies won't help if he just have one or 2 parts to go and you just now start to build the ship. It is working if you are 5 to 10 turns behind and want to cach up.
