Just started my second game and made some adjustments to things based on my first-ever Civ 5 game.

Civ: England (first was Greece, naturally)
Map Type: Archipelago (first was continents)
Map Size: Standard (same)
Civs: 10 (+2)
City-States: 16
Difficulty: King (+1, first was on Prince)
Resources: Sparse (first was Normal) - I am stoked to find this change. I felt the resources were far too prevalent in my first game. Almost tried "strategic balance" but thought I'd go with sparse first. So far, so good! Only one cow, one sheep and one deer on my tiny island. The whale animations are AWESOME.

Side note - is our HOF backed up on Steam?

You probably won't get Uranium anywhere close. And Aluminium won't even be spawned on the map. Most abundant my ass.

The resource (cow, sheep, deer) benefits are so paltry that you may regret them being so "sparse."

If they're paltry then why would I regret it? Besides, every civ is at an equal disadvantage.

Besides, I like the extra challenge. I want to fight for resources, not just have every one on the map around every other city.

1 sheep, 1 cow, 1 deer is only 2food 1 production. that would suck. no happiness bonus.

There are two whale resources and two fish also off the coast. Remember this is archipelago so I'll be going from island to island to find stuff - this isn't a continent-sized island.

I'm actually beginning to think that sparse has an impact on horse/iron counts. I built a mine on a grassland iron and am only able to build one catapult. Or is this because of King difficulty?
