A tank can run out of fuel. And when you think about the match between the turtle and the famous Greek hero, you'd know that a spearman could outrun a tank anytime, as long as he got a head start.
So basically, he could run until the tank's out of fuel, and the wait until the troopers get out and kill them.\
The point here is that the spear must have a head start, and that will only happen when defending. If under attack, the tank could simply shoot the spearman, since the spearman is moving towards the tank on that occasion.

Another thing, that nobody has thought of yet, is that sometimes entire armoured divisions have been lost when they simply run out of supplies. So, this happens, and the lost, starving crew who have only a couple bullets between them and no fuel for the tanks are murdered by a horde of primitve spearmen. There! Is everyone satisified now?
Or you can say its just a game and not worry about it, but if you want to find an explanation for it, its easy enough to do.

Yes, it's possible.

The tanks enter the square filled with cleverly hidden spearmen. They can't find them, and their crews climb out to relieve themselves, and promptly get cut down by fierce spearmen while holding nothing but their d*cks. Their precious tanks get set on fire, and their severed heads are mounted on spears to ward off future would-be invaders.

many of the ideas u ar makeing about how a divison of spear men can do to beat a tank divison are every un ethical and imposibal. suchs as out runing a tank and keep runing tell it runs out of fule... dose any one have a logical clearly thot out and edicated way to explaine how spear divison can win aginst a tank divison... runing out of suplies?? it wholdent take a lot to just beat the spear men so it whold still have lots left, geting out of the tank??! naa y whold thay do that??.. now lets take some spear men from egypt and put them aginst one tank. thay whold drops ther spears and pray to the "steal beast" as a god most likely let alone fight it.. im not saying ther runn away.... for ex in ww2 the japs whold ofen charge tanks with swords(whats the difrents between a sword and a spear when u go aginst a tank?) and thay allways got kiled befor thay got to the tank or shot (once the tanks crew hears him smaking his sword aginst the side of the tank) bye the turer that just spins around and aims, or thay just strat spinging ther tank around nocking him over and crushing him.... if it didnt work with a sword y whold it work with a spear????? i do know that thay offen dug holes in the ground and out a guy in the hole with a bomb and a hamer and covered it with leafs to hide it, once a tank came over it he whold hit the bomb with the hammer and blow him self and the tank up... but to think that this whold hapen to every tank in a divison is imposibal. allso ther spear unit wholdent only take damage from the tank but allso them selfs from killing them selfs in the proses for killing the tanks...

I've always been a strong supporter of the underdog. We need to help the tanks...My solutions:

1. Send your tanks to battle with Spearman escorts. They've remained undefeated for the last 6,003 years, and seem to have a higher defense rating than Mech Inf's.

2. Remove the guns from your tanks and replace them with spears. Perhaps armor made of stainless bronze will do.

3. Just upgrade them! I'm sure Spearmen are much better in your army than tanks.

I believe Einstein said (think it was him. saw it in someone's sig) "I know not what the weapons of World War 3 will be, but the weapons of World War 4 will be sticks, stones, and Spearmen that have served in the military without leave for 6,000 years."

I gess (u who think spears and beat tanks and modrean wepions) think that itlay lost agisnt ethiopia when that invaded in 1936(some had rifles and still lost?? ethiopia even had an air force of ONE plaine and still lost??? istn that amazing?? we know that spers allways beat tanks and modrean wepions but yet ethioia lost????? i bet some day well get a jet fighter shot down by a guy chunking axs at it while on a bombing run in irqa or somew whear...)

There is a little technique you can do to improve the quality of your spelling in posts. Simply type the thing up in Word, and correct it as the little squiggles pop up. That way, your spelling comes out nice and neat every time! That's what I do!

Amm, why don’t we just stick to the topic which is “spearman vs tank.. once and for all. final show down!!!” and not “Make fun of someone because I am unable to read his writing” which I can read and understand.

Anyway, nothing is perfect so when the game came out no one expected for a tank to be killed by a spearman. Who cares anyway? That happens so rarely that I was beginning to forget about it...

Yeah! Stick to the topic. I really think it's a good idea to have that Spearman-beats-Tank aspect to the game. The whole point of the game is "what if." What if Julius Caesar hadn't been assassinated? What if Napoleon had conquered Russia? What if Hitler created a huge army of Spearmen to line up border-to-border and stop the Allied advance?

Well the real problem here is that people think the game should be more realistic.

So, in real life can you move anywhere on the same landmass with rails in one go? No. It is not a simulation of RL, just a model.

How about moving troops? In RL, does one army get a 'free' go at attacking, then when they have attacked do they just sit around and wait for the other side to attack them back? No, it is a model, not a simulation.

How about turn times. In 4000BC did it take 50 years for a person to walk 100 miles? Does it take a year for a person to walk 100 miles in 2000AD? No, even though that is supposedly what the tiles lengths are.

So, despite the fact I disagree about spearmen not being able to defeat tanks, it doesn't matter since Civ3 is just a model of real life, not a simulation!!

Now, take the red pill and WAKE UP - Civ is just a fantasy land.

Here's an interesting idea, what if after a while a horribley obsolete unit becomes a 1hp versian of the unit below a modern unit, so instead of a spearman vs. tank, you'd have a 1hp rifleman.
