Spinoff versions

Yeah many more versions of civ3 is to come. They will try to get the most money out of it as possible.

In order to support sagging sales, Firaxis will have to make expansions to the game. I'd expect another version 12-18 months after the release of civ 3. It's a pretty typical sales curve with units sold dropping off exponentially and eventually reaching a point where the game is no longer pulling in profits. Then comes a new version and then that one follows the same curve and on and on and on...

I was vexed by the fact that I was forced to pay for an additional package merely for features that should have been in Civ II to begin with, i.e. multiplayer, a viable scenario editor, etc, all in a "Gold" edition. From what I hear, Test of Time merely adds micromanagement; you have to play on several maps simultaneously!

I also felt cheated by "EA's" Maxis. I yielded sixty American dollars for SimCity "3000", and having found that it was the nearly identical to its predecessor (only it was augmented with extra busywork, i.e. new garbage transference and "improved" sewer system), SimCity 3000 "UNLIMITED" was announced. My god: I hate "expansion packs" and "spin-offs"...

I'm sure that Civ3 will include such features as multiplayer and scenario editor in the original release-expansion packs would probably be new scenarios, civs, units and advancements, perhaps new graphics and wonders and such...More in the line of what Alien Crossfire did for SMAC rather than the expansions to Civ2.

Well, I think it will have. Some scenario packs including a few BeBro and kobayashi ones.

Maybe this is why we get only 16 civs: you have to buy Civ III Gold to get another 16, including the Mongols, Spanish, Vikings and Arabs. It would probably also include scenarios and new units.

Any other ideas?

Brilliant!

They've done it once (SMAC), they could very well do it again! Ahhh... I can just imagine it, new "add-on Civs" new "units" maybe a new map/unit editor since the one we haven't used yet is probably worthless

And we'd buy it! We're buy it for the sake of the new Civs! I mean who'd want to see a world with 16 countries compared to 32, the more countries and more variety, equals authenticity
, which gives us something to measure with the real countries, and since we are playing world leaders,

nothing can be more fun than that.
