Sorry if this has been asked before but is there a mod out so that the civs start spread out in the world instead of on top of each other? Thanks!

Different Maps scripts usually do this, A Terra map usually starts on a single continent with a second continent near by, but seeing as they all start in the old world they area is going to get cramped pretty quickly.

Hemispheres usually remain balanced out with each player starting on the same horizontal line depending on the player. Pangea seems to have big amount of space usually. I think it usually depends on the type of map script you are playing, I don't think it is something you can do with an xml file. So, I doubt it.

I think its the "Highlands" map that has no Ocean, and you can make lakes and seas real small. So your getting a lot more real estate with the same amount of civs. Try playing the Incas on it;) There are some other 'no water' maps but I don't no what they are.

You can try small continents as a map. It won't eliminate having an AI on top of you, but there is a good chance you will get an island to yourself.

If you want an island to yourself, Large Islands is better.
I found that 1/3rd of the time on Small Continents I shared the starting landmass with an AI.
That (almost) never happens with the Large island script.

Note though that on Large Island you can sometimes be "truly isolated" for a while. Sometimes what would be the closet AI as the crow flies has no direct route to you until Astronomy and it's a very long coastal route.

Ha, last week I fired up a "Small Continents" map where I had 5 AI civs on my starting land mass. Sometimes alone, sometimes crowded, random is random, I guess.

Just use a large map. Continents Plus map has most CS off the main continents so that helps with having real estate. You can also reduce the number of civs in your game (advanced setup).
