Starting to make unit mods, need your help

I'm tinkering with modbuddy while reading Kael's fine guide and I am starting to make unique unit mods, even though they don't look unique. I was wondering how I can make conditional abilities for units, if it's even possible. For example, how can I make a unit do more damage when the capital is being attacked? That's the kind of thing I'm wondering. Thanks for any ideas, I'm really excited to get my feet wet with modding.
 
You'll probably have to learn lua to do any of this stuff. Otherwise you're best off sticking with the unit abilities available in the units.xml and promotions xml files
